FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Police here are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a woman during an argument Friday night.

Police spokesperson Stacy Flores said the woman got into an argument with a man over money at the Federal Way Transit Center near the intersection of South 317th Street and 23rd Avenue South.

The fight escalated, and the man pulled out a gun and fired several rounds, hitting the woman.

"I was waiting on the bus and i just heard gunshots and started running," one witness said.

The 38-year old woman from White Center was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she later died. Her name has not been released.

Police believe the gunman and the victim knew each other, but the exact nature of their relationship is not known.

Police scanned the transit center's surveillance video, hoping for at least a glimpse of the gunman.

"This is in a public place. We don't have very many shootings like this," said Dep. Chief Andy Hwang. "So any time there's a shooting like this in our community, it certainly does raise a lot of concern. "

Police are interviewing witnesses and looking for the gunman. A detailed description was not available.
