OLYMPIA, Wash. - A new law establishing a Blue Alert system in Washington state is expected to be signed into law Thursday, giving authorities the ability to enlist the public's help in looking for cop killers.

Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign the Blue Alert bill Thursday afternoon.

Similar to the Amber alert for abducted children, the Blue alert would use radio, TV and freeway signs to ask the public to help locate people suspected of killing or severely injuring an officer.

The bill had stalled earlier in Olympia because of its $100,000 price tag. But it easily passed the Legislature after the recent killing of Washington State Patrol Trooper Tony Radulescu.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Mike Hope of Lake Stevens, a Seattle police veteran.

The family of Trooper Radulescu is expected to be present at the signing of the bill.
