15-year animal ban for Ore. woman in cat tossing
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) - A Springfield, Ore., cat breeder accused of trying to kill two Persian cats by tossing them in a river has been barred from owning any domestic animals for 15 years.
Betty Ann Gould entered "no contest" pleas Thursday in municipal court to two misdemeanor counts of attempted aggravated animal abuse.
Police were able to rescue the two cats from the Willamette River in late November. The animals had been put in a bag before being thrown in the water.
The 62-year-old Gould was also sentenced to five days in jail, but will not serve any additional time because she spent about four days in jail after her Dec. 3 arrest.
The woman told authorities she has given away the estimated 50 to 60 Persian cats she had when she was arrested.
The two rescued cats are living with a Eugene family.

If you breed animals, put her name on your "Don't sell to" list....
Put her in a bag and throw her in the river.Â
50 to 60 cats are too many cats in one place. I'm glad she can't have any more cats. Poor kitties! They depended on her for their care and she puts them in a bag and throws them in a river to drown. What kind of breeder is she anyway? The kind that overpopulates the place with cats - in it for the money. Too bad we can't put her in a bag and throw her into Niagara Falls.
Can't imagine how someone could do this. She doesn't need any animals for the rest of her life. Glad the two rescued cats have a new home and I hope the remainder went to good homes as well. Anything has to be better than where they came from.
