16-year-old girl rescued after falling ill on hike near White Pass

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima County sheriff's office says a 16-year-old girl on a church group hike near White Pass fell ill Wednesday and had to be rescued by helicopter.

The local fire department was called to the area of Clear Lake about 4 p.m. Wednesday to check on a hiker who had become ill. She was near the summit of White Pass and her condition was getting worse.

The sheriff's office says she was hoisted aboard a King County helicopter and flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Her parents were notified to meet her at the hospital.

Her condition was not immediately available.
