SEATTLE - Police have arrested a 20-year-old Federal Way man in connection with the May shooting death of Justin Ferrari, who was killed as he drove through the Central District with his family.

Homicide detectives, a Seattle police SWAT team and U.S. Marshals made the arrest Thursday at Andrew Patterson's Federal Way home, after investigators searched surveillance footage and worked with gang detectives to track him down, according to Seattle police.

Ferrari, 42, was driving his young children and his parents along Martin Luther King Jr. Way and East Cherry Street on May 24 when he was struck and killed by a stray bullet meant for someone else. He died of a gunshot wound to the head.

"These folks were not involved in any way. Wrong place, wrong time, tragically," Assistant Seattle Police Chief Nick Metz said at the time.

Ferrari had just picked up his parents from the airport and was leaving town for a Memorial Day weekend vacation.

He was an employee of Zillow, and had previously worked for Expedia and Microsoft.

Patterson was booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide.

"The one and only suspect in Mr. Ferrari's murder is in custody," said Det. Jeff Kappel with Seattle Police.

This wasn't Patterson's first run in with that law. According to state records, he was arrested back in February for fourth-degree assault. Just two days earlier, he was picked up for criminal solicitation. Patterson was also arrested in 2011 when he was found with ecstasy pills after a fight in downtown Seattle.

Warrants also were served at several other locations in Seattle and South King County before the arrest, according to police.
