SEATTLE - Police have arrested a 20-year-old Federal Way man in connection with the May shooting death of Justin Ferrari, who was killed as he drove through the Central District with his family.
Homicide detectives, a Seattle police SWAT team and U.S. Marshals made the arrest Thursday at Andrew Patterson's Federal Way home, after investigators searched surveillance footage and worked with gang detectives to track him down, according to Seattle police.
Ferrari, 42, was driving his young children and his parents along Martin Luther King Jr. Way and East Cherry Street on May 24 when he was struck and killed by a stray bullet meant for someone else. He died of a gunshot wound to the head.
"These folks were not involved in any way. Wrong place, wrong time, tragically," Assistant Seattle Police Chief Nick Metz said at the time.
Ferrari had just picked up his parents from the airport and was leaving town for a Memorial Day weekend vacation.
He was an employee of Zillow, and had previously worked for Expedia and Microsoft.
Patterson was booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide.
"The one and only suspect in Mr. Ferrari's murder is in custody," said Det. Jeff Kappel with Seattle Police.
This wasn't Patterson's first run in with that law. According to state records, he was arrested back in February for fourth-degree assault. Just two days earlier, he was picked up for criminal solicitation. Patterson was also arrested in 2011 when he was found with ecstasy pills after a fight in downtown Seattle.
Warrants also were served at several other locations in Seattle and South King County before the arrest, according to police.

im sure he is a good kid, he just got in a bad crowd. i bet he becomes a life long thug.
Two words down at the jailhouse. Fresh meat.
I will go on record as saying I believe there is a 90% probability that the prosecutor will plea down and the judge will have him out the revolving door of Washington's justice system before the end of the year.

Look the thug gangsta part ? then don't be surprised when you get treated like "them". Why is that a role model to follow anyway ? The black community as a whole should take responsibility for accepting this in their back yards. All the tragedy and heartache that it brings is ON YOU.

@AcesHidden And he looks so happy doesnt he..
@Kittycat  @AcesHidden I mistook the picture as the one that was shot, not the perp.My bad.
@Kittycat That's a pretty generalized statement about a large group of people, many who may be considered "thugs" because of how they dress, but are maybe in school, or starting a family. Maybe you should get to know some young black males...

@Upgrayedd Thanks you!Â
I have several black friends and you're right I dont know very many black youth- however the ones I do know are respectable youth and are in school. Maybe its part of the culture of this age group to look cool and gangster like- I dont get it. Even if you are a yourng black youth and  trying to do something with your life why on earth would you want to look like you are a gang banger or a danger to society- it makes no sense and it just propells a stero-type into our society- because people then just fear these guys. It just goes into a spiral spin- they say they are just dressing and playing a pary- society fears and sterotypes!
@virtual anomaly I disagree this is the persona this garbage wants to be known by...He posted the picture of himself and he wants to live the thug life. He perpetuated the stereotype.
@virtual anomaly No you sound ignorant. Majority (not all) of the black youth now a days do think it is cool trying to be a hard core feared gangster!! Majority of them listen to rap which is filled with idiots trying to point out how hard they think they are. I am 25 and ran with this crown for the last 9 years and believe me I knwo first hand. Please note that I did point out not all.
@virtual anomaly I honestly try not to- sometimes its hard,,, I think everyone just wants to feel safe
@Kittycat
I didn't think you were one of the long-hair haters, but your attitude towards peoples' dress makes you guilty of the same judgements they made back then.
Â
You don't need to "get it", just don't judge a book by it's cover...
@virtual anomaly its not the fault of the stero-typer. Thug and gangster attire is plunged into the media and displayed as violent and hateful. This puts fear in others- why would you want to appear this way? Why is so attractive and cool- I dont get it???
@virtual anomaly LOL no I dont hate the long hairs or anyone for that matter- I just dont like anyone disrespecting the lives of others- its senseless and I am not a racist- at all
@Kittycat You kind of sound like the ones from the 60's and 70's who hated the "long-hairs".
@Kittycat A negative stereotype is the fault of the stereotyper, not the stereotypee....I'm sure if they were going for a job interview they would dress nice, or at work, why should it matter how someone dresses in their free time?
Just don't let this lowlife breed.
What an arrogant looking punk.  He knows that he will get a slap on the wrist.  Oh, he may go to prison, but he took a life.  We do not need to warehouse him, he does not need 20, plus years of appeals, eliminate the problem.  Our country is becoming desensitized to violence.  This creature is a botched abortion.  It is high time that a retroactive abortion was performed to correct that.  And, yes, I know I am going to offend many people, but it is high time we took a strong stand against this kind violent scum and create a safer and more user-friendly world for those of us who work hard and follow the laws of the land and the moral laws of humanity.
Â
@Circe You're advocating killing people on a massive scale so that your taxes can go down, maybe you're the one who is desensitized to violence.....
China has adopted your approach since 1991, it's not working but maybe you could do us a favor and go there anyway.

@Willy Lee And you sound like a wild racist.

@cobrakai Look the kid just "looks" like he is trying to be a tough SOB- and this type of arrogance "black or white" kid doesnt go over well with society. It portrays a youth that doesnt have to follow the law or abide by society- they just dont value anything but themselves-
@KittycatLooks like a dude taking his own picture to me. Not sure what makes him look "wild"...aside from the fact that he looks different from you. I'm not saying he's a good guy but Willy Lee's comment reeks of racism.
Unfortunately this POS will not get the death penalty. Best they can do is negligent homicide. He'll spend a few years in jail and get out early because of budget issues or something Al Sharpton comes up with.
Â
This is a perfect example of why we need to toughen people laws and leave the gun laws alone.
@Gino Can't they do 1st degree murder since it happened during a felony (attempted murder since he was shooting at someone)?
@keeper It wouldn't stick with a jury. First degree murder means you planned it out and planned to kill the person murdered. I know there is the tag on charge but I think it is a prosecution stretch. I'd rather he go to prison than walk free on a technicality when the jury gets their instructions.
@Howard Beale First degree in Washington State can be applied if you accidently kill someone while deliberately attempt to kill someone else.  That would be the case here.  If I plan and try to kill you, but instead kill someone else, it's still 1st degree.  Â
Â
 (a) With a premeditated intent to cause the death of another person, he or she causes the death of such person or of a third person;Â
Â
There is also an allowance for someone who manifests "an extreme indifference to human life," which I believe is also applicable.
@Howard Beale  @keeper Any way you look at it it's sickening. Mister Ferrari payed with his life for being in the wrong place and we're going to pay for the rest of our lives for that POS to be housed and fed and watch HBO because to deny him that would be cruel and inhuman punishment.
"It should also be noted that Washington is the only state with an active gallows (Delaware dismantled theirs in 2003)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_Washington Enjoy the rest of your very short life in prison
Not worthy of being called a man.. just another gang banger punk who probably never had a positive father influence in his life..losers
arrogant punk....his picture makes me want to vomit....mama must be so proud! Bet that smirk gets wiped off his face real soon!
I don't get it. They live in the most resource rich country in the world with all the opportunities to do something in life, why do these people choose the life of crime?
@NickM1979 Assuming it wasn't a rhetorical question, it is largely because the left (progressives, social-safety-net / hammock folks) has made being shiftless and jobless comfortable enough that they have the time to waste on gang activities rather than productive work.Their policies have encouraged out-of-wedlock children, discouraged being a responsible, hard-working parent, and made the perceived cost-benefit analysis of criminal activity look relatively attractive
Â
On the less rhetorical side, there have ALWAYS been human-shaped pond-scum with us. Nothing new, there.
@RN1 I wish this new forum had a thumbs down option. It has very little to do with politics and a lot to do with the personal attitude of entitlement.
So another punk, waste-of-skin, habitual offender gang banger kills an innocent, honest, productive, upstanding citizen and loving father/son/husband.
Another day in Seattle.
Nice work on the part of SPD, for sure.
I find it interesting that the NAACP and the Urban League have not said anything. Where is their vocal outrage when a young black man kills an innocent person? Where is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and the rest of the "minority talking heads"? Hypocrites each and every one of them.
@BobDobbs Where is the outrage from white leaders when a 24 year old white male kills 12 people and injures 50 at the movie theatre for kicks ?? Go look in the mirror at yourself and repeat "I'm a racist, I'm a racist " 100 times! Idiot!!
Um there has been outraged about the Colorado shootings from everyone- obviously you arent watching the news! And why turn this thing into a racist deal! And it is true- where are the black panthers and crew on this one!
@LoJack We don't have "white leaders". They're just called "leaders".
Ummmm, I do believe outrage has been expressed by both white and black leaders....
Nice work SPD!!!!
Death penalty.
Just put him down like the rabid dog he is. A spec of dirt has no business killing innocent people.
Wat scared punk for not turning himself in. Haha, ur going jail for the rest of ur young life. Hope ur not a virgin, cause u wont be when u get out!
What the suspect is a young black male, I am surprised at this.
Federal time, jerk - federal time. Enjoy.
hasta la Vista Baby!
Dear Mr. Bible,Â
You have an opportunity here to come out and condemn the behavior of this young black man. Make a statement that even the NAACP does not support such behavior. Your support is with Ferarri family. Your silence only shows support for this behavior and there is no message sent to the young African American males that this behavior is unacceptable. God forbid you speak truth and not hate.
@4America2 Only when YOU and other White leaders condemn James Holmes for killing 12 people and wounding 38 people at the movie theatre in Colorado with all his guns! Quit playing the race card FOOL !
@LoJack I do condem the guy. And every leader across the world will condem this white trash piece of nothing. I would love to see him hung from a tree outside the courthouse for all to see.
@LoJack @4America2 I think you're the one playing the race card here bud!
@LoJack its always about race, where have you been?
@LoJack James Holmes wasn't, as far as we know, in a gang. He was a deranged guy that is getting rebuked from everyone.
@LoJack Everyone I'm hearing on the leadership level is openly condemning him for committing this horrendous crime. I wish we still had public hangings for both James Holmes and Andrew Patterson.

I was at Kent Cornucopia when a fight broke out and police swooped in and had the young black men on the ground in seconds. They had attacked a young hispanic man. The black people around us jumped up and were yelling at the young black men about why do they always have to ruin things and yelling at them about what idiots they are. I think that the black community is tired of this as well, it's just the people like Sharpton and Jackson who don't seem to speak up and be leaders. Even the President has not used his potential influence to speak up to the young black people. They don't have hope, he promised them hope and change.
