AUBURN, Wash. -- A 27-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a car Thursday evening in Auburn.

Police say the woman, an Auburn resident, had just parked in the 900 block of 1st Street SE and was coming around her car when she was hit.

A 20-year old man was arrested on site. He's facing vehicular assault and possible DUI charges. Police say he hit the woman, then side-swiped her parked car and another car in front of her.

Adam Epps said he witnessed the crash.

"She flew just, like, 30 feet and landed in front of this bike," he said. "(The driver) didn't leave, he stayed and make sure she was going to be okay."

Firefighters from Valley Regional Fire Authority arrived on the scene at 5:45 p.m. and found the woman unconscious in the road. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Neighbors say the woman teaches fifth grade in the Kent School District.
