Thunderstorms light up the skies over parts of Puget Sound... again

SEATTLE -- Well, here we go again.
The greater Seattle area averages roughly five thunderstorms a year, but we're going to try and collect them all within a week as another round of showers and thunderstorms began pushing in Thursday evening and continued on Friday.
One potent cell pushed through the Olympia and Shelton areas late Thursday, with frequent lightning , heavy rain and reports of some hail.
More storms developed overnight and by Friday morning much of the Puget Sound region and Cascade foothills had seen some rain, thunder and lightning.

Any storms Friday could bring frequent lightning, heavy rain, moderately large hail (by our standards) and gusty winds. Storms can form suddenly so don't get caught off guard if you're out overnight.
The storms are courtesy of a potent upper level low pressure center -- the same one that went through last weekend is coming back around for a second shot at the Northwest. Only this time, it picked up some tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Fabio so it's got some decent energy.
The weather will calm as the day progresses and the low pressure center moves off to the east.

All this crazy weather and nobody seems to even blink an eye.Â
I finally gave up and got out of bed at 4:00am. Made coffee @ 4:30 and saw a flash of lightening and heard the thunder at the same time here in Roy. I hope I can get some sleep tonight.
I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves.
I love thunderstorms! They are beautiful displays of Mother Nature's power.
I was dreaming when I first heard the thunder around 2 am. I remember hearing it in my dream, and in my dream I wondered what the sound was and went to try and find out where it came from. Hahaha! Then the next crack of thunder actually woke me up. Was kinda weird to hear it in my dream, search for the source and then wake up. :)
@Bubbles LOL. I had a very similar dream, only in mine we were hit with a much larger storm. In my dream, I witnessed two kids in the back neighboring lot nearly get hit by a bolt of lightning. I was then woke up to the sound of distant thunder, and at that time I decided "it's time to get the camera gear ready again!"
Went to bed at 11 with lighting in the clouds....woke up at 3:30 with lighting still outside but still no thunder....and this morning at 7:30 still getting flashes of lightning. No clue what it's doing now but it's like this lightning is sitting right above Tacoma......pretty cool but weird. Sure this isn't Friday the 13th with all that's going on today? Feels very surreal.
@dg54321 Its the Tripods, the same ones that were in War Of The Worlds. They produced lightning with no thunder. Better get ready.
Hopefully this means the thunder will be gone Friday night? Â I'm starting to get a little loopy from lack of sleep here...
One can't help but get loopy when the 3-day forecast around here changes about three times a day...
Â
Can't plan a damn thing anymore...
I'm in port angeles, seen the sky light up in the distance, toward seattle but nothing came by here.We just got some dreary cloud cover and occasional drizzle.
Good day to sit on the couch staring longingly outside and play those old fleetwood mac albums i could never stand.
Â
Never knew a low pressure cell could cover that larger an area then come back for seconds... don't say that too loud though as Fabio might hear you =)
Here we are again.Â
Â
And still waiting for the explanation about why in THE heck are we talking about thunderstorms so much more frequently now, as if they are becoming normal????
Â
This is insane.
We here in Silvana are getting a pretty good dose of heavy rain, lightening and thunder right now, started at 6:45AM. Just this second had a bolt of lightening directly over head, we actually heard the snap of the lightening followed immediately by thunder.
I love this stuff! Nothing like sitting on the deck, having a good drink and watching mother nature sing!
I saw it off to the South. Absolutely gorgeous! And nickel sized hail? When did I move to Oklahoma?
@Mumblix Grumph We had nickel-sized hail in Shelton when I was photographing it near Lake Limerick!
I think I would enjoy another good one, maybe better. :) And after looking at that Shelton pic, I would love to go back over to Lake Limerick to watch all that!
@Zoso That's where I took this photo. :) Two miles east of the lake, at a clearing on Mason Lake Road. :)
@StevenRosenow Really? Awesome! Then I guess I would've had a nice view right there at Log Toy Beach or at the island off the club house! That probably would be the best camping trip out there yet! :)
Yep nature's light show is happening again, still I take this weather over the drought happening in majority of the rest of the country. Besides, it's absolutely gorgeous seeing it reflected on the water.Â
Oh what I would do for a heavy cell to pass through with vivid/frequent cloud to ground lighting at say 3:30 AM while it is still pitch black.
Â
BRING IT ON!
I'm loving this weather, bring it on!
