Not guilty plea in Seattle stray bullet killing
Andrew Patterson
SEATTLE -- The suspected gunman in the shooting death of a passerby in the city's Central District has pleaded not guilty.

Andrew J. Patterson pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge in the May 24 death of Justin Ferrari, who was struck by a stray bullet.

Investigators said Patterson was firing at someone else across a street when he hit Ferrari as he drove through an intersection with his parents and two young children in the vehicle.

Ferrari had just picked up his parents from the airport and was leaving town for a Memorial Day weekend vacation.

The 43-year-old worked for several high-tech companies, including Zillow, Microsoft and Expedia.

Patterson, 20, of Federal Way is being held on $2 million bail. If convicted, he faces up to 23 years in prison. He is due back in court on Aug. 13.
