Masked robber opens fire on S. Seattle store owner
SEATTLE -- Police say a masked man opened fire on a South Seattle convenience store during a Monday night robbery.

The robber walked into a store on Renton Avenue South and South Kenyon Street at roughly 9:45 p.m. He approached an employee in back of the store and demanded all the money in the cash register, according to police.

As the robber was fumbling with the cash register, the store's owner came out of the back room armed with a two-by-four and charged at the man. At that point, police say the robber pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at the owner while running out of the store.

Nobody was injured in the melee.

The would-be robber then jumped into a black, four-door sedan with another man, who may have been acting as a lookout. The car sped away heading southbound on 44th Avenue South.

The robber is described as a black man in his 20s who stands 6'2" inches tall and weighs roughly 160 pounds. Witnesses said he had a slim build, wore a camouflage jacket and a green mask.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the robbery unit at (206) 684-5535.
