LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A man walking across Highway 99 was struck and killed by a car that never even stopped Thursday night in Lynnwood, and now police are searching for the hit-and-run driver.
The incident unfolded just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday as the man was crossing the street in the 17200 block of Highway 99 in Lynnwood.
Witnesses reported that the car hit the man while heading south on Highway 99. The driver then did a U-turn and took off to the north, leaving the critically injured victim lying in the middle of the street.
Police say they need the public’s help in finding the hit-and-run vehicle, which witnesses said appeared to be a silver Lexus with significant front-end damage, including a broken windshield. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
The man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries. He died a short while after at the hospital.
Officers shut down the entire road between 168 and 176th streets for about three hours to gather evidence - anything that might lead to the person who did this.

The punishment for hit & run needs to be so severe that the driver would rather stay at the scene than face a potential sentence like life in prison. Running away doesn't seem to enhance the penalty much these days.
Â
RIP to the person killed and condolences to their family & friends.
He/She should turn him/herself in. Â Sure it would've caused panic, but should face the responsibility - better late than never.
Dude is TOAST!!!
 @DualLeads Or dudette.
Has hit and run become the new sport around here? It almost become a daily occurrence.
They left out the word...."DRUNK""!!!.Getting really old......
They will get you you coward bastard, you can run but you can't hide!
Seems like we cannot go a day without a hit and run or someone being killed by a drunk driver. What is wrong with people?
Someone is having a garaged car for awhile.
 @jelisized Except that in all likelihood they'll get caught eventually. DOL records for a start. And people do talk.
 @Chico @alexcrowley Might be, but it could be some old lady who owns a mansion and doesn't need to ever take it out of her garage.
 @jelisized Doubt he has a garage living in a trailer.
May the karma of the gutless hit-and-run driver experience 1,000 fold the horrid mayhem they caused to an unsuspecting person crossing a street. Such scum hope they surface somehow, someway and are ultimately caught, only to be mollycoddled by our judicial system.
 @alexcrowley Karma is neither good or bad. I think people casually throw around the word without knowing what it means. It's not about retribution or something bad. It has to do with one's self, not what will happen to people because they did something wrong. An eye for an eye would probably be a better description of what you mean in a causal manner (not casual).
 @jelisized Karma: cause and effect.
 @alexcrowley Kind of, but if you take the meaning and belief literally, it could happen many lifetimes from now. This guy or gal could go through this life with no consequence. And to top that, the consequence may just be guilt in a future life with nothing more to show his or her actions. But I'm being literal with the term only because people use it in the simple meaning of cause and effect, which it isn't.
Another hit and run? Is this the result of children who were raised without being taught to take responsibility for their actions?
 @justmyopinion Yep!
too many hit and runs in the news lately. what is wrong with these people?
Â
if it is indeed an accident, or the pedastrian was not visable, etc, then why run?
Â
likely this lexus driver was drunk or otherwise impaired. may they have sleepless nights until they do what is right....
I sure hope they catch the SOB that did this.  RIP to the victim and my condolences to his family and friends.
Damn, this is just down the street from me...I did hear sirens last night. Now I see this...so horribly sad.Â
 @DMT Good morning DMT...... Sad indeed. So many hit and runs these days..... One can only think: Stolen car, illegal immigrant, impaired driver, etc.
 @Funky-Munky Or someone with a warrant...(good morning to you too!)
 @DMT so many possibilities of what happened.... (jeepers) tough for police but not impossible... I hope this comes to an arrest of the suspect hit and run driver....
That's a stretch.
 @Alikelystorey What's a stretch?
