Police: Road rage may be key to man's shooting death in car

SEATTLE - A 42-year-old man who was gunned down in his own car Friday night on 15th Avenue NE was likely the victim of road rage, police now say.
The victim, Yancy Noll, was an avid outdoorsman and wine steward for the QFC grocery chain and was well-known in the wine community.
The shooting happened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 7500 block of 15th Avenue NE, says Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.
When police arrived they found Noll sitting in the driver's seat of his maroon Subaru in the middle of the street. He had been shot several times. He was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.
According to police, the shooter pulled up next to Noll in his car and for reasons that may be related to road rage, fired multiple rounds at Noll, striking him several times. The suspect then fled the scene in his car and remains at large.
The suspect's vehicle is described as a silver BMW Z4 convertible. The car may have recent body damage, including a broken-out passenger side window.
Several witnesses describe the shooter as a well-dressed white or Asian male in his late 20s to 30s with dark, slicked-back hair.
Homicide and CSI detectives responded to the shooting scene and recovered numerous items of evidence.
Detectives are encouraging the suspect to turn himself in.
Meanwhile, a memorial is growing for Noll near his home, just blocks from where he was shot.
Friends describe Noll as a good-hearted outdoorsman who had been planning a kayaking trip in the coming days. They can imagine no motive for killing him.
"He had a heart of gold. He really cared about people," says another friend, Laural Waters. "It just feels senseless, given who he was."
Anyone with any information is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Homicide Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. Anonymous tips are welcome.

I think everyone would do well to remember a life was lost here. He was my friend and I cared for him. He was kind, funny and generous. Those who knew him are suffering a deep loss.Â

My God.
Â
May Mr. Noll Rest In Peace. I am so sorry for him and his loved ones who are grieving his horrific murder.
Â
Â
This is a clear indictment of our society as a whole. That anyone would feel entitled to kill another person is unconscionable but it seems to be happening more and more. We cannot afford to become accustomed to violence as if it were a normal aspect of being human. It is not normal. This should never have happened.
Â
The shooting occurred before 7:30pm - still plenty of daylight and just north of Greenlake. I'm hoping that more witnesses come forward - the guy is still running around loose. Hope that they catch the creep soon.   Â
Such a senseless loss of life. I hope someone turns in the shooter. There is SOMEONE who knows the shooter like there is someone who always knows who drove the hit and run vehicle. If they know the person and don't say something they are just as guilty as the perp.
Â
RIP young man; my prayers and condolences to your family and friends.
So, if you are lucky enough to have that pretty little sports car, and you drive it like a jerk and become enraged at folks who are merely going about their own business on the road... it's a safe bet someone knows you fit this profile. You might have a girlfriend who has been terrified and embarrassed by your driving. You may have buddies that laugh at your pathetic attempts to assert dominance after you peel out on their residential street and throw gravel with your back tire.
Please turn this guy in if you know him.
Well, there you have it, we were just discussing road rage concerning the folks on the motorcycle, and here we are again discussing road rage only this time someone lost their life, I'm somewhat confused on the broken window issue, was it shot out? or was it missing before this killing? or was there some kind of confrontation inbetween before this fella got murdered? it really doesn't matter right now, we do know one is dead, and one is running, such a sad, sad thing, it is really scary to "know" this could happen to any one of us if we dare to even look at someone on the roads and they take it wrong.

Â
The guy was in such a hurry to kill he could not even push the window button? He must have been really po'd about something.Â
@oldster70 Or... there was a previous altercation where the Subaru and BMW had a fender bender which led to the broken glass... or the Subaru driver may have broken it ... we just don't know what happened. While it is never OK to take another's life, especially for something as seemingly innocent as road rage, we just don't know the circumstances around this situation. It is possible the BMW driver was enraged at perceived damage or injustice committed upon his vehicle and felt justified to shoot. Sadly, I can see the headlines now... I just don't understand it, but I guess we don't have to.
Huh? What a wierd comment to make. That is what you think of first with a tragic killing like this? Push the window button...
@My opinion is Well, it might be a crucial clue...if the car has a shot out window, every window repair company in the area will be looking for it.
@My opinion is
Well I thought I made my point. This killer was in such a hurry to kill the victim he did not even roll his window down and shot right through it. A lot of anger there. So what caused it?
Or maybe it was broken by the shooter when he stole the car...........
Unfortunately, this is just another very sad story, as the US society suffers from a terrible disease appropriately called GUN RIGHTS DISEASE and anyone can own guns legally. This disease has infected the society beyond any possible cure. The NRA and all its members are infected and the risk is that the rest of us are exposed to this virus. Arguments in support of gun rights are part of the symptoms with the most dangerous being the killings every single day. You are sick and you donât even know it. Tomorrow it could be anyone in my household.
@Socialjusticeforall
You are delusional. Legal gun owners decry the use of firearms in criminal activities; indeed, legal gun owners defend these rights such that predatory criminals cannot vicitimize them, or their families, or those they love.   Your ire is sadly misdirected, and should be instead directed at the social disease that is the criminal mind, not the inanimate object he wields.  To blame a hunk of iron and steel for the actions upon which it is used is as ludicrous as to Ascribe the constitution as a product of the pen and ink, and not great minds.
Â
I pity you your ignorace.Â

Â
@Socialjusticeforall Here you area again, diagnosing us all without benefit of a degree in any mental health specialty. That's pretty arrogant of you. I think you are a zealot on a crusade - every bit as much as I think that about the rabidly pro gun guys on here who turn every discussion into a pro gun tirade.Â
And I will continue to do so. So far it is very clear as shown by the facts that good citizens (hopefully like you) don't mind being lumped into the same category of legal gun owners with the crazy people and criminals who are able to own guns legally. The day you want to separate yourself from those groups by creating appropriate ownership responsibilities like annual training and licensing in addition to TRUE background checks, that is the day I will give you credit, until then you remain infected by the disease.
@Socialjusticeforall Why do you keep bringing the NRA into this? You don't know anything about it. The NRA trains law enforcement and the American public. You're just regurgitating Brady Campaign lies that hold no truth. The NRA is a valuable resource when it comes to history, advocacy, safety, and training. Active American servicemen, veterans, teachers, lawyers, doctors, housewives, children, blue collar workers, and law abiding citizens are apart of it. Blindly bringing the NRA into a discussion in a negative light shows that you are ignorant (and I know you do this to bring down their credibility without facts).. At least back your claims up with facts. I'm proud of the NRA.
@Socialjusticeforall Do you just cut and paste this stuff on every story involving a gun?  This gun disease argument is garbage.  I don't care if some group of anti-gun whack jobs decided to perform a scientific study.  "Arguments in support of gun rights are part of the symptoms", man you are either drinking some serious kool aide, or making up outlandish stories, but it's funny.  Gun ownership, and belief in gun rights is a personal choice, not a disease.  Aids and cancer are diseases.Â
@eichler34  Nah, SJ is just unhooked from the rest of society and is willing to buy-into whatever flavor pablum the anti-gun folks spew nowadays.
Â
Must be pretty pretty intense though, as I haven't figured out the cut-n-paste aspect for this board and SJ seems to have this particular rant memorized.
@Socialjusticeforall Sorry to say this but it sounds like you should be kept from owning a gun. Seems like you could snap at any moment.
Sorry to see the loss of another life over road rage. Second incident in the last couple of days. The other incident I read about was somebody using their car to ram a couple on a motorcycle off Hwy 20. Luckily the couple on the motorcycle got off with injuries, if that is lucky. I am not in favor of all the driving habits of my fellow motorists, but taking somebody's life, or seriously injuring them over what? Get a grip people and put your adult panties on. It is not worth the trouble.
Guns are great. Yeah.
Look, gun violence in the news. Now there's something you don't see everyday. Oh wait, we do see it every-single-effin'-day. Slow learners who have hijacked the term "American values" will argue that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Well morons, people kill people with guns. This dude looked pretty healthy. Do you really believe the coward that did this would've jumped out of the car and squared up on him like a man? Of course not, the gun is what made this happen. Get a clue.
@AmericanToo So are you saying there was no man behind the trigger, and the gun pulled it's own trigger?  For accusing the opposition of thinking too simplistic, you sure are thinking the same way.  What would your solution be?  Ban guns? When they are banned, and you are in the comforts of your own home and get invaded by a guy who didn't bother to obey the law on the gun ban, will it make you feel better that you increased your safety by having them banned?
@AmericanToo
Actually many more people are killed by automobiles than guns, knives, and blunt instruments together. If you really want to save lives, outlaw cars. They are not even constitutionally protected. Â
@oldster70  @AmericanToo Want to compare guns to cars? Fine. Show proof of competency before you can own a gun, proof of insurance to compensate victim's families, and register your gun annually to help pay for the costs associated with gun violence.Â
@AmericanToo  @oldster70 These things are not bad ideas. When you put them this way, instead of how you worded things in your above comment, they make more sense.
@AmericanToo People kill people with other things, too. Knives, or like the other road rage story, his car. People DO kill people. Sometimes with guns, sometimes with blunt objects, sometimes with poison, sometimes with.... pretty much anything. You, perhaps, should get a clue as well.
@lovestolearn  @AmericanToo Its just WAY easy to do with an implement designed to efficiently kill people.Â
@AmericanToo  @Citizen#3457899654 Lightning is nature, not a choice someone makes. You don't need to be rude just because someone has a different opinion than you. Grow up.
@Citizen#3457899654  @lovestolearn How many stories on just this site during this week on vehicular homicide? How many stories on just this site today about gun violence? Lightning kills people, too, but not multiple times a day in every county in America. Lovestolearn? Not very quickly, apparently.
@Citizen#3457899654  @AmericanToo This is also true. I don't dispute that. I support people's right to have guns (if they are legally able to do so) But to say they are not dangerous would be silly, too.
@AmericanToo I suggest you move to China or North Korea. It could mean the death penaly to own a gun there. You should feel much safer in one of those countries. Bye
 @JT  @AmericanToo Nope, I'm staying. And I vote.
@JT  @AmericanToo the funny thing is, when we look at how things were done hundreds of years ago we shake our heads.... thousands of years ago we are astonished..... in time when people look at our current situation 500 years down the road, they will too be astonished at our love affair with guns and how we used to kill each other with them.
Â
It's a weird infatuation we have with these little devices that kill each other so easily....

@komosux Could it be that you are the shooter? Worthless waste of life signs...
@komosux most retarded comment of the day congratulations loser....
@komosux Trust me, you won't get the job. In fact, tell mommy to take back the computer and send you to bed early. You're at it again.
@komosux If you really believe that "komosux," then why are you here? Maybe you should just leave. You'd be doing us all a favor!
@komosux Im dumbfounded by your ridiculous comment. Go play in the road.
@komosux I sometimes cannot believe what I read on this forum, but your comment is the most heartless and profoundly insensitive I have ever read here. You should be ashamed of yourself.
This shooter is complete toast. Can't exactly offer up "self-defense" alibi. Say goodbye to your Z4, fool...
Yet another low life scum sucking coward who runs.
@Chico And who hides behind the power of a weapon (and apparently some good hair gel) to "settle the score"
Hope they catch the shooter. Got to be careful in this day and age. Just cutting people off and ignoring the incident doesn't work any more. Be aware of your surroundings. If someone pulls a gun mash on the gas and get out of there.
I hope they catch this guy. Murder and the loss of ones soul isn't worth it.
driver was a white 30ish man driving a newer bmw definitely rules out gang related
Â
seattle recently "won" award for worst drivers (partly due to road rage)
Â
this guy cut someone off, some finger gestures were passed back and forth and for that a man is dead and his family and friends are left to mourn
Â
very very sad. Â
Â
if challenged, let the jerks "win" it is not worth your life folks
@sunnysandiego  "well-dressed white or Asian male in his late 20s to 30s with dark, slicked-back hair."
Â
How do you figure this rules out gangs?  Look to the south from where this took place, see that next hill?  Some of the most ruthless "Asian" gangs hang out up there.  Gangs come in all colors and styles.  Organized crime.
@nokoolaid4me well not many gang members live to be 30 (thank god), not many are white, and not many can afford a convertible bmw....
Â
other than that my figures might be in time proven wrong.
Â
I said this from the get go (read the first report of this story) that this is road rage and not something else.
Â
why do you seattlites not believe a smart, well educated guy might know what he is saying.
Â
I have said things here before and the VAST majority have been correct including the fact the seattle police department is corrupt.
Â
sheesh stubborn you are!!!!
I think people were safer back in the wild west when a lawman covered a territory of hundreds of square miles or more, when evil roamed the open ranges.Â
Â
This is just sickening! I guess we all have to be locked and loaded and ready in case we forget to use our blinker or don't get the hell out of someones way when they want to rule the roads themselves.Â

@CIAassassin  I guess he got mad because he couldnt get any girl despite the fancy clothes, the slick hairdo, and the silver BMW Z convertible  :-)
 @CovertAgent  @CIAassassin covertagent, CIAassasin...? Where's spy.v.spy?
@chandler (ROFL!!!!) CIA is right.  It's the govt. protocol.  Shall we schedule the time and place for our first rendezvous, CIA?  Make sure your response is coded.  :-)
@chandler spy vs spy?  well, we haven't even met and had sex yet.  what you're implying usually occurs after our initial rendezvous... Â
