Former youth pastor sentenced for child rape
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A former Bible camp counselor was sentenced Tuesday in Vancouver to 35 years in prison for sexually abusing two children he knew through church.
Forty-six-year-old Michael Scott Norris of Vancouver was convicted in July of child rape and molestation.
The Columbian reports Norris was a volunteer pastor and counselor at Open Bible Church in Portland when he was arrested in 2006.
The case was delayed by a dispute over evidence and a separate federal prosecution of Norris for producing child pornography. He received a 25-year child pornography sentence that will be served at the same time as his state sentence for rape.

Church people...... They never learn.  How many children have to be raped by these predators of the churches. Just keep giving to that collection plate as they are told everything is Gods will.Â
Â
I would never leave my child alone in the hands of any church member for "private counseling". Â
Â
What are these parents thinking?  Answer: they aren't.  The snake oil they are selling is stronger than the parental instinct a parent would usually posses.  Â
Â
They are raping your children people. Â Probably on the same days they are holding out the collection plate under your nose.Â
Â
Is this "legitimate Rape" Republicans??? Â Â
Â
A priest in New York apologized this week for saying priests accused of child sex abuse are often seduced by their accusers and that a first-time offender should not go to jail. Â
Â
He also referred to Sandusky as "this poor guy" . Â
Â
he said;   "Suppose you have a man having a nervous breakdown, and a youngster comes after him. A lot of the cases, the youngster â 14, 16, 18 â is the seducer."
Â
The church later said the priest was in a wreck years ago and this contributed (somehow) to his blaming the children for seducing the priests who rape them. Â
Â
He sounds like yet another member of the church who should never be alone with those Awful child seducers. Â
Â
Every day its sounding more and more like the church is in cahoots with the republicans to redefine rape to "sexual misconduct caused by seduction". Â
Â
Kind of like in Washington State where "RAPE BY COP" has been changed to "CUSTODIAL SEXUAL MISCONDUCT"
Â
Are you getting this people?  They are calling rape misconduct in Washington State if the rapist has a badge.   Its outrageous!
Â
Â
Â
@Andrew Bush Not really a church thing... simply the proclivity of people to believe that "rules are for other people." Church is neither antidote nor vaccine against that.
Â
I quite agree that rape under color of authority and rape by officers not in the context of duty are being addressed very inadequately. But this again is a manifestation of "rules are for other people!"
How about Penn State? Are they in cahoots with republicans and the church too? I want to see you back up with some proof that the rebuplicans are redefining rape. Stop turning a crime into an excuse to promote your political agenda.
Finally a sentence that approaches being realistically long enough for someone who commits such awful crimes. Although life would hardly be a long enough sentence in my opinion.
What is it with all these perverts and predators at churches anymore?? is this really what your god teaches?? take advantage of small children?
So anytime someone commits a crime or turns out to be a pediphile we should go ahead and blame any club or organization or their employer for what they do and ask "Is this what your (insert entity) teaches?"Â How about someone from a specific ethnic group, do we now blame all of them and suggest they might be the cause as a group?
Â
Nice job taking the focus from the criminal and turning it on bashing churches, lets be honesst, Christians.
Â
@JFR Churches are the perfect hunting grounds for pedophiles. Look at the Catholic priests who went unchecked for decades raping and abusing children, all under the noses of their own parents. And we only see the molesters and rapists who get caught. There are many more out there who remain unidentified and unpunished because their young victims are either too scared to come forward, too embarrassed, or both. Absolutely sickening. If it were my child â the perp wouldnât survive to see a trial.
