SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- Despite a threat to kill staff and students at Skyline High School, the school district will not cancel classes again on Friday.
Detectives have traced the online threat that prompted the school's closure on Thursday, but they still don't know who is responsible.
The district said the post deeply rattled everyone in the community, and investigators spent much of Thursday looking for where it came from.
The threat first lit up the internet Wednesday at about 9 p.m.
"We received calls and emails as far away as Pennsylvania alerting us to this threat when they saw it on the social media website," said King County Sheriff Steve Strachan.
The online poster threatened to open fire on people in the school's common area, writing, "I will kill people until I'm stopped or run out of ammo."
"It's always scary when you hear things like that, because these are supposed to be safe places," said Skyline teacher Chuck Blagg.
With help from the FBI, detectives were able to trace the post to a proxy server in Sweden, which was used to hide the poster's origins.
"We have gotten some tips, we have gotten some leads and so far they have ruled out some possible suspects, but have not identified a specific person responsible," Strachan said.
Strachan said chances are the poster is a local and someone knows who he is. The threat is also worded just like one made against Meadowvale High School in Lynnwood in April.
Skyline will run on a modified schedule on Friday, with classes starting at 9:55 a.m. The campus will also be closed for lunch.
Anyone with information about the threats is asked to call police. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Thanks to reddit and 4chan, two web sites frequented by young people (and some olds, like me) this threat got attention very quickly. So, please, take note that this was a good deed done by the alert young person who spotted the original post on 4chan, and uploaded a screen shot to reddit as 4chan was removing the post. I am sure 4chan contacted authorities too, as did reddit, and many users of these sites.
@two loons and it all happened in a matter of two hours. i'm glad someone took it upon themselves to alert the internet community and the school district.
I hope they find the person that did this before they actually act on their threats. Obviously, anyone who would do something like this is not right in the head.
Pure evil that lurks inside a torture mind....became so REAL here today. In our neighborhood...Skyline HS had a  "columbine massacre" like THREAT so that HS closed. I'm one scared Mom --and I'm thanking God my son, his friends and the 7,000 other HS kids in these 3 HS by me (which are only 3-4 blocks apart- Skyline, Eastside Catholic, Eastlake HS) are safe tonight -- and my son will be in the house all day tomorrow while the try to find + arrest this maniac!Â
whoa chuck blagg is my world studies teacher!
