MARYSVILLE - Snohomish County sheriff's investigators have found the Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in Wednesday morning's hit-and-run near Interstate 5 that killed a 58-year-old Marysville woman.

Detectives also believe they have identified the driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old north Snohomish County man. He has not been arrested. The case remains under investigation, said Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover.

The Jeep was taken into evidence. Detectives are not releasing any information at this time about how they found the Jeep or the driver.

The victim, Nicole Francis Cheek, 58, of Marysville, was struck by the Grand Cherokee early Wednesday while walking near 34th Avenue NE on the Tulalip Reservation. The impact knocked her out of her shoes and over a wire fence.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office said she died of blunt force trauma to her torso and lower extremities. Cheek's body was discovered in a grassy strip Wednesday morning between 34th and I-5 by a driver headed south on the freeway.

After investigating the crime scene, Snohomish County sheriff's detectives concluded she was hit by a 1992 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The man believed to be the driver of the Jeep is not the vehicle's registered owner, but the Jeep was not stolen.

Detectives declined to release any additional information about the driver since he has not been arrested. They are not releasing any other details about the Jeep, either.

Detectives said the hit-and-run investigation could take up to a couple of months to complete. Once completed, the case will be referred to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office to decide whether charges should be filed.

While the Sheriff's Office is no longer looking for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, detectives are still asking anyone with information about the incident to call the tip line at 425-388-3845.
