FEDERAL WAY - A stray dog that has suffered with a twisted chain tightly wrapped around her neck for two months has been captured by King County Animal Control and is now recovering, officials said.
The dog had been living between a local office park and an apartment complex since February. Many people in the area had tried to catch her and help her, but the dog couldn't seem to break down the barrier and take a chance on someone.
Animla rescue officials also had been unable to catch her using a humane trap.
With time running out and concern mounting that the dog might die if she couldn't eat, King County Animal Control tried capturing her by putting out some food for her with a dose of tranquilizer in it Saturday at noon.
The tactic worked.
After the dog fell asleep, rescue officers took her in to the Humane Society of King County and treated her wounds.
Officials said the injuries are not as bad as initially feared, and that the dog - a breed known as a jindo - should recover just fine.
Animal rescue officials now have the dog's collar and are hoping to locate the owner. If the owner is found, charges will be filed.
