LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Police here in a standoff with a man who investigators believe was one of two who attacked another man earlier in the day.

The suspected attacker is holed up in an apartment the corner of 77th Street West and 59th Avenue West.

Lt. Dave Guttu with Lakewood Police says the incident began when a woman and man dated briefly, and at one point, the woman left some clothing at the man's home.

The woman then arranged for the man to come to her home Sunday night and bring the clothes back. But when he arrived, he was lured into a bedroom where two men were waiting for him.

Guttu says the victim had a sack pulled over his head and he was beaten with a rifle and threatened by the two men. He was then driven by the two men out past the town of Carbonado and dumped.

He called police to tell them what happened, and Monday afternoon, officers tracked down the apartment where they believe one of the attackers lived. A standoff ensued when officers discovered the man was possibly inside and armed with a rifle.

The second man was not believed to be there and is still on the loose. Guttu says the woman involved in the scheme was taken into custody Monday morning.

There is no word on the motive for the attack.
