Bremerton man, girlfriend shot to death in N.C.

LENOIR, N.C. (AP) - A Bremerton, Wash., man and his girlfriend have been fatally shot in Lenoir, and the woman's estranged husband has been arrested.

According to a police statement, 46-year-old Barney A. Dunlap of Hickory approached Officer Gary Dishman in a parking lot early Friday, saying he had just killed his wife and her boyfriend.

Another officer, Cpl. James Moore, was dispatched and found 32-year-old Gerald K. Lakey dead and Dunlap's estranged wife, 45-year-old Roslyn Fox Dunlap, wounded in her home. Both had been shot in the abdomen with a 12-gauge shotgun. The woman was rushed to a hospital but died the next day.

Dunlap is being held without bail at the Caldwell County Detention Center. He appeared in court Monday, and his next hearing is set for May 29.
