Man who put dog in oven gets jail time, probation

SALEM, Ore. - A man who pleaded guilty to a shocking animal abuse crime will serve time in jail followed by a long probation period, a judge said Thursday.
Kevin Dean Parrish, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated animal abuse charges on Wednesday after putting his grandmother's dog, a small Chihuahua-Pincher named Kudo, into an oven that was heated to 350 degrees.
Parrish will serve 30 days in jail and then be placed on probation for five years.
Parrish said he had heated the oven to cook some food but became angry at Kudo when the dog nipped at him. He admitted to investigators that he hit and strangled the dog before putting it in the oven.
Kudo was rescued by Parrish's brother and father. The dog was burned but is expected to make a full recovery.
Parrish, who has no prior criminal record, admitted to Marion County deputies that he has anger issues and snapped when dealing with the dog.
In light of several recent local high-profile animal abuse cases, Democratic Rep. Brad Witt has introduced a bill in Salem that would require animal abusers to register with Oregon State Police in the same way sex offenders are now required to register their location.
"Often times, what we see is people who abuse humans got started abusing animals," Witt said. "Certainly it's intolerable to be inflicting that kind of abuse pain and suffering on animals."
First of all I want to say sorry to Kudo for this behaviour that was done by Parrish. I think that Parrish is mentally retarded or mentally sick. I don't understand how he can put the her grandmother dog in oven at 350 degrees . I think there should be some strict legal against this kind of crime. I am also a pet lover, so I don't tolerate this crime & i think there should be some serious punishment to be given for this act of Parrish.

I would really like to know how to adopt this poor dog, if komo could contact me I would like to find out if it's possible. My heart is breaking for this poor child. I don't think the punishment is not enough for sure.   Please contact me or reply to my post so I can contact you. thank you
This story is sad and tragic. The only good news is the dog is going to recover. I have adopted six rescue cats and my wife is a professional dog show handler and we have 10 pure bred show dogs. I am a 100% animal lover. I'm saying all this as a preamble for my belief that this 20 year old kid received an appropriate punishment. It is easy to get lost in our shared rage at this horrible crime. Clearly, he desperately needs prescription and psychiatric treatment. He also needs to suffer a real and memorable punishment for the crime he committed. Finally, there needs to be years of follow-up to ensure the treatment is successful and this never happens again. That is why 30 days in jail, mandatory court monitored treatment and five years of probation with followup to ensure the treatment is successful is the proper punishment. We have enough dangerous criminals keeping our prisons full that when there is a very good opportunity to rehabilitate a criminal and turn him in to a productive member of society, we need to do that.
He should pay for all the vet bills and be required to take anger management classes AND mandatory counseling. I don' t care that this is the first time he "just snapped" and had no prior problems. This is a huge wake-up call to everyone around him that he is dangerous. I would never allow him near any animals (or young children for that matter), for 30 years.
This guy should have been given life in prison with no parole EVER! Â
The Bastard should have gotten 30 yrs. He just got a slap on the wrist SAD!
Â
Cook him piece by piece. These pieces of c@rap deserve equal and proportional punishement. Anyone who attacks another living creature 10 times their junior in weight is a coward and deserves to be punished by jail time and to be excluded from society in one form or another.
Too light--he should be put in an oven for the same length of time as the dog.
I have an idea.......pizza ovens are pretty big, aren't they? POS.
This will be FAR from the last we ever hear from this little waste. Hopefully he will be in a cell with someone who has "anger issues".
30 days is chump change. Â Noy only that he should NEVER be allowed to own or have contact with ANY animals for the rest of his life.
Kevin needs some SERIOUS counselling or he could wind up being another terrorist. He also needs to be off the street because he is a threat to society. He needs to get no less than a year in jail and  at least 2 years weekly professional counselling. And if after a year of counselling he should be re-evaluated to see if he is safe or should remain in jail. Â
I would gladly execute this guy with my bare hands.Â
30 days is not long enough. It's not like this was an accident.
Hell no is that enough with that kind of punishment no wonder animal abuse is so prevalent today! Why should these animals that abuse poor defenseless creatures, that hold dog fights or attend dog fights be afraid of what consequences there pathetic actions will be bring about when it is the equivalent of a slap on the wrist. And what are we saying to the generation coming up by saying these kind of actions are about as bad as steeling a 5cent piece of candy.
WTH Kind of punishment is that ?!?!?!?!? He deserves a few yrs at the very least!!!!! In the hottest place there is so he can feel close to what that poor baby was feeling--he needs shoved into some kind of heated chamber daily!!
no 30 days is not enough if it were a child he'd get life and well our animals are our family, he needs to go longer and harder punishmentÂ
@Pam Proper Meikle He wouldn't get life for burning a human child's hands, but 30 days is nothing, he'll serve very little of that even.
I cringed when this story first made headlines. 30 days is not enough. He had time to think and consider what he was doing. I'm guessing it is all about him and his needs. Kudos to his family for doing the right thing and not covering it up; sad that they have to deal with this.
30 days is not long enough! Hopefully when he gets out someone will take care of the problem. Or maybe if we are lucky, while he is still in.
This guy needs to be strangled and put in a 425 degree oven. Stupid POS!!!Â
@Jessica The answer is always to act just like the person everyone calls a POS, but that would make you a POS too. HMMM... I guess its only right to do as long as your not the first to do it,......Right????  Not working for me. If your willing to do the same thing as him, you should not call him names, because your just calling yourself names.Â
You know if we would actually "punish" these so called human beings, and I use that term lightly, maybe, just maybe, it would slow animal neglect and abuse down. But these people will continue because they do not have to pay for the crime they have done.
Â
What will happen when this guy has a child and gets angry with it?
Sounds like someone needs to be locked in an outdoor toilet for six months to a year to me. He got off easy - MUCH too easy.
Quite honestly this poor man sounds like someone who would need some mental help. I do not see how jail time will help that. It would be better if he was sent to an institution for evaluation, if found that help is needed than put him on a phyciatric probation of some kind, that checks on his progress. If he goes, continues to go and is doing well stay out, if he does not go and or does worse, than go back to the institution. Sure if it is just pure evil, than he needs just pure jailtime and intervention from the church.Â
@trulylovedDon't you know that jail is where we put the mentally ill? We don't have the money or institutions to keep these people, he'll serve 15 days and be out before you know it.
The guy has anger issues. Â He abuses animals. Â What's next? Â Abusing people? Â Are we going to be seeing this guy in the near future shooting up a mall because he has "anger issues"?? Â This guy scares me.
he got off to easy. He should not be able to have an animal. He should also be fined
Is he allowed to own a animal now? I didn't read anything about that. I really hope not. He couldn't handle his grandmas dog, he won't be able to handle his own.
No court-ordered psychological evaluation? Awesome. When he buys an AR at Wal Mart and kills his family because they didn't know the frequency, we can all say someone should have known. This dude needs serious and prolonged help.
@AmericanToo He can't buy an AR at Wal Mart.. or anywhere else for that matter... they are sold out everywhere.. (LOL)
This dude does need help, anger management, not jail.. (I am speaking of institutionalized type anger management) Granted, this guy abused this dog.. It was not a human...Â
Seriously, animal abuser registration?? that is insane..
Just so everyone knows, if you attempt to hurt or abuse my dogs, you will face some serious difficulties.. they are my property, and I will protect my property..
What he did isn't right, and that behavior does need to be corrected. Jail for 10 years, life, and everything else people have said, is really over reacting. Heck, it is hard to get 10 years for child abuse.. why should animal abuse be held at a higher standard?
Throw him in inpatient treatment for anger issues, for however long it takes..
The dog is alive, that is a good thing. This POS is alive, and that is just wrong!
he should have told the judge he had been hungry....for a hot dog....
@CIAassassin I don't find that funny at all if you were trying to be.
Much more jail time should be mandatory for such horriable animal abuse as this!!!!!!!!! We need to actually start to hold people accountable and stop being such a hug a thug society as we are now!Â
You can start by entering his name into a mentally disturbed person!
There are those days when I sometimes wish we had a little of that "eye for an eye" legal system! Who could do that to this sweet little dog?
As with children and the elderly, pets also fall victim to these creeps. We see it all the time and it's been going on for years. There is something wrong with a society that lets this keep happening over and over again...Man would I love to see a real bad-ass politician come out with serious no- tolerance legislation that truly protects those most vulnerable and any court that does not comply, hold that judge accountable to the full extent!
@justsayin What is really wrong with society, and this includes those mass shootings, is that we don't identify people with mental issues and offer them help until after they've already committed a crime.  Sure we can lock them up after they commit some heinous deed, but by then, it's already too late for the original victims.
it should be a felony...a 3 strike kind of felony.Â

The guy should be euthanized.
@SandyBeach In an inhumane way!
Hey folks this is the North West. Remember we believe that the criminal justice system still works. LOL
30 Days? Seems like this would be as good a time as any to post a link to this:
Â
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/pass-federal-law-making-animal-abuse-felony/dtqxS9sb
Â
That would be a petition to pass a federal law making animal abuse a felony. No more slaps on the wrist for psychopaths in the making.
@AesopsTables Sorry, but that "petition" has absolutely no legal force. There is no initiative process at the federal level. Writing and mailing (snail mail) to your LOCAL US Representative and US Senator requesting that they introduce or support federal laws dealing with animal abuse will have a far greater effect than simply signing an on-line petition. Mass mailings and on-line petitions to Congress are routinely ignored.
@AesopsTables I did this. I encourage everyone who sees this to do this. It took a couple of minutes. Only a small pain in the ass considering what could be accomplished! Sorry in advance for "shouting" but it's important.....THEY NEED 18,474 SIGNATURES AND ONLY HAVE 6,526. PLEASE SEND THE ABOVE LINK TO EVERYONE YOU CAN THINK OF!
@
AND THEY NEED THE SIGNATURES BY FEBRUARY 11TH
AesopsTables-thanks for that link. Signed it and sent it to others.Â
Will someone please put this guy in an oven?
@Jack60Â Â How hard would it be to start and underground group to "teach" these people...
