2 State Patrol cars hit near icy Snoqualmie Pass

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. - Two Washington State Patrol cars were hit Saturday amid snowy conditions off Interstate 90 near Hyak at Snoqualmie Pass, state troopers said.
Several other vehicles also spun out and were involved in minor crashes amid very icy, slippery conditions at the pass.
Exit 54 off the freeway was closed for a time after the crashes to remove vehicles from the off-ramp, but it has now reopened.
"It is very slick in the area," said one state trooper at the scene. "Please drive slow for conditions."

How much fine for hitting the patrol car?
I'm glad we didn't get snow this year. I hate that stuff unless I'm on a mountain, where it belongs.
Hope everyone is ok! Be safe out there, everyone.
That picture looks like a playground paradise for my subaru. :)
@LandsharkSubarus often don't do well in snow around here unless they are elevated foresters or the other SUV types. I remember going to Alpental once and seeing these guys stuck in their Imprezza because despite all wheel drive, it was high-centered on a snow drift. This is why I like tall SUVs for the snow.Â
@NW-Economist @LandsharkTake a drive in a subaru through the snow, then come back to me and tell me about your experience.
My previous car, before my subaru, was a 1993 ford escort wagon and I never got stuck in the snow.
Now I drive a 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon and it dominates in the snow. Â Slap on some snow-tires and it's near unstoppable, but yes once you get into snow deeper than about 14 to 16 inches it starts to bog down (not get stuck, just bogs down a bit). Â However, how often do we see that much, even on the roads at the passes?
@NW-Economist @Landshark Blame the bad driver, not the car. I will take a Subaru over my wife's SUV any snow day.
People around here can't drive in the rain, how do expect them to handle the snow?
There's nothing like hitting the slopes when there is fresh snow, but when I see this picture, I think "naw, think I'll watch TV"
Are the offices okay?
Getting into an accident sucks for anyone, but hitting a patrol car? That is the epitome of suckiness.Â
"I can't understand how this could have happened, officer. After all, I have FOUR=WHEEL DRIVE!" <facepalm>
The driverâs name was J. Finnegan. Sheâs back on the road after writing this:
Hit again. Fixed again. Gone again. Finnegan
[An apology to Off again, on again, gone again, Finnegan.]
Use some common sense up there, people. Â I don't care *what* you drive - no vehicle can stop on a dime in those conditions.
I wonder if perpetual writerâs cramps is grounds for a medical retirementâ¦
I know how much paperwork is involved with dinging a military car while states-side, but canât even imagine what itâd be like for a WSP trooper while OTJâ¦
