SUQUAMISH, Wash. - Two people were injured as a car and a pickup collided Monday morning near the Clearwater Casino in Kitsap County, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The crash closed Highway 305 for hours, disrupting access to and from the Bainbridge Island ferry.

State troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene, Highway 305 at Suquamish Way, at about 7:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious injury accident.

The driver of the car was trapped inside his vehicle, and fire officials said it took more than 30 minutes to extricate him. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

The pick-up driver, with what appeared to be less serious injuries, was taken to Bremerton’s Harrison Medical Center by ambulance.

The circumstances leading to the crash were not immediately clear. A light pole was also struck and came down in the eastbound lane of the highway.

Traffic ground to a halt on both sides of the nearby Agate Pass Bridge for hours. The westbound lane was reopened at 9 a.m. and both lanes reopened at 11 a.m.
