2 injured in possible gang shooting at South Seattle house
SEATTLE -- One of the two men shot early Wednesday at a house in South Seattle chose to hide from officers rather than be treated for the gunshot wound to his leg because he believed police had a warrant for his arrest, according to the Seattle Police Department. He lasted an hour and 10 minutes before police were called back to the house and he was finally taken to Harborview Medical Center.
According to police, the incident started around 2:10 a.m. when someone fired shots into the back of a house in the 5600 block of South Leo Street before running off.
Officers arrived, and a 19-year-old victim was taken to Harborview for a grazing wound to his shoulder.
Officers were called back to the house at 3:20 a.m. to deal with a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. According to police, he had hid in the basement the last time they were there because he thought they had a warrant for his arrest. He was taken to Harborview for his injury.
Police believe there were five people in the house at the time of the shooting. SPD's Gang Unit is investigating.
...taken to Harborview on our dime.....shoulda let him bleed to death....fecking dirtbags.
A large part of the problem with gang management is that people in the neighborhoods where gangs operate won't assist the police when a crime occurs. They are so afraid of the gangs that they don't want to be labeled a 'snitch', so allow the gangs to continue their agendas of crime. These societies need to stand up as a whole and say 'enough is enough. This must stop.'
Shocker. Gang shooting.
Gang Unit is just a euphemism that we use to give the wink wink without having to say it.Â
@lakeview Ummmm... say what?
@heavyweather @lakeview Whatever. Anytime SPD throws out the words Gang Unit, it simply means young male black on black crime. There is no proof here of any gang affiliations.Â
@SargeMcC in this case, he's right. I live 2 blocks from that house....there is no evidence of any Asian or Hispanic gangs in this end of town. 95+%% of all crimes committed out here are by black folk. This house is just around the corner from where, 2 wks ago, a gangbanger trashed the hell out of and shot up his grandparents house. They then hauled his butt around town to do some deals and collect some cash, then hid him from the cops in their house. These people are full on, idiotic dirtbags.
@lakeview. So, you're privy to the investigation? 'Gang Unit' means black on black crime? really? What about the Hispanic gangs, or the Oriental gangs? Those don't get investigated by the gang units? I thought you were a passive liberal, now I see a passive racist.
I truly feel sorry for the hard working, upstanding citizens who have to live in these gang infested neighborhoods. Many are disabled, elderly or low income and can't afford to live anywhere else. Many of these neighborhoods used to be relatively nice before the scum started taking over. Being a confirmed gang member should triple the standard sentence for any crimes committed. We as a society should have a "zero tolerance" policy towards gang membership.
Every gang member should be seen as a terrorist and measures be taken to rid America of them.
I agree. What is the difference between a gang banger and a "domestic terrorist".... not much.
We're not going to get anywhere until we impose the death sentence for gang related gun crimes.Â
POS, who cares.
@futhi151 As tax payers we should all care. We pay for police, paramedics, ER staff, hospital care. court costs, public defenders, incarceration, welfare and many more expenses dealing with these miscreants. It would be interesting (and frightening) to see how much we spend to deal with these pukes from birth to death.
who cares.Â
I have zero sympathy for gang bangers. If they kill each other off, oh well. They do absolutely nothing positive for society. They are worthless POS in my opinion.Â
@The WA Mama One fleeting thought: Those who get out of gangs and make honest attempts at life on its terms...... continue to be in my prayers.
If they are one of the VERY few who actually choose to fly right, more power to them. But, that it no way gives them a free pass for all the crap they pulled, crimes committed, and victims terrorized before that.
@Funky-Munky @The WA Mama Of course, the only way to get out of a gang is to join one in the first place.  Sure, each member is a precious snowflake that could stumble upon salvation...  Tell yourself that as you cancel your credit cards when your purse is stolen; as you pressure wash the gang graffiti from your garage; as you mourn an innocent bystander killed during a driveby...
I know! We should impose new gun laws that have absolutely no affect on criminal gangs.  Hey, who cares if it just infringes on the rights of the law abiding, we would be DOING something. Then we can feel so good about ourselves.
@Goodwin Hey I know, lets declare the gang infested areas "gun free zones" Im sure that will do it.
Well here's a suggestion... Don't be in a gang and s*%t like this won't happen to you! Duh.Â
Dumbass. It would be amusing if he lost his leg to infection. That'll teach him to not report to jail for his crimes.
Michael Harthorne, you have a typo in your article: "because be believed" I think that should be "because he believed."
@NW-Economist Thanks! I've corrected the story.
These fine upstanding citizens must have simply forgotten to turn in their guns at McGinn's buyback program...
is it raelly that big of a dael that you have to correct a be to he typo? get a lif!
@sultan1978Â Obviously spelling and grammar aren't a big deal to you. NW-Economist was fine in pointing out the typo.
@sultan1978 Yo replyed to de wong coment
@sultan1978It just bugs me, kind of like you. But hey, I was just giving free help to a paid reporter whose job it is to present professional journalism to a huge urban area, I'm sure he doesn't mind the help as he's probably pretty busy.Â
@NW-Economist @sultan1978 Right on both counts.
