2 killed as speeding car crashes into Green River at Tukwila
TUKWILA, Wash. - Two people were killed Friday morning when their car plunged into the Green River not far from Southcenter Mall, officials said.
Police and rescue crews responded to the scene, on South 180th Street, at about 1:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash. It took some time before they realized that there was a passenger in the vehicle, in addition to the driver. Both were found dead at the scene.
The driver was later identified as Conjewel M. Glover, 38, of Des Moines. The passenger, his girlfriend, was Johnetta Powell-Stewart, 35, of Seattle.
An investigation found that the car, an Audi A-6, was heading west on South 180th Street when the driver lost control.
Witnesses, including a driver for UPS, told police the driver was speeding at the time, slammed into the embankment, went airborne and landed in the river at a curve in the roadway.
Police say there are no skid marks on the roadway - suggesting Glover never hit the brakes or had a chance to correct himself.
"He built up quite a bit of speed before he hit that corner," said Mike Murphy with Tukwila Police. "Just don't know if he didn't see the corner coming.. or hit it deliberately or what the situation was. He hit it straight on and fast."
Friends who came to the scene said the two victims were dating, and both had several children of their own. They admitted Glover had served prison time for theft, assault, forgery, drugs and illegal firearms possession. And he has a current warrant out for his arrest on theft charges.
But friends say they can't figure out how any of that could be related to what happened here.
Police say it'll be awhile before toxicology reports come back.

One should be praying for The Children,Family and  close friends instead of passing judgement.
I know one thing about my friend Conjewel Glover despite crazy remarks posted below that left me stunned at how people respond to death he was a brother, a good friend to many regardless of his convictiions. He constantly looked out for me and my family. Hearing from him was always a pleasure, along with laughing with him. I will forver truly miss him, from Pasco Washington to Las Vegas NV. He always had a friend in me.
The fact that many of you can bring yourself to make such nasty comments in the light of 2 tragic deaths is, quite frankly, disgusting and appalling. I knew Conjewel very well and, despite his allegedly checkered past, he did not deserve to die. I did not know Johnetta but my heart is broken for her, her children and her family. She was a beautiful woman. To all you heartless idiots posting negative comments please remember that their children are old enough to search for and read these comments. Also know that your time will come one day as well. Grieving the loss of a loved one and then reading these comments is extremely hurtful and infuriating.
I really hope all the people making these ignorant and judgemental statements are perfect. Heaven forbid you pass away because the way it seems what's more important is your mistakes, wrong doings, etc. I'm not defending ConJewel's criminal background but God should be the only judge when you die and he will face his own judgement day. What do you people get out of making these rude & judgemental comments!? Just because Johnetta fell in love with a convicted felon doesn't mean she deserved to die. Don't judge people because they sin differently than you do!
RIP Johnetta. 3 kids lost a mom, it is a sad situation. For those that do not know the passenger, she is a single mom who has one child and adopted two others. She was educated, worked with children, a good and loving mother. Her children are well taken cared for, she was a hands on mom. It is so hard to see the judgemental posts here because what people assume is not the person she was.
@Lyn A good loving Mother hanging with a wanted felon with a record for theft, assault, forgery, drugs and illegal fire arms possession.
@joefuss -who she fell in love with ( which came at a much later part of her life) cant change the fact that she raised and took care of her child plus two other children she adopted. She was a working mom who provided for her children. She was also someone who let family and friends stay with her until they can get back on their feet. She fell in love, I cannot fault her for that. In my book, she is someone her kids can be proud off.
I agree Lyn... I knew both of them personally and had called him 2 around 3;AM that morning and it went staight to voice mail. I know his baby momma... NeNe; his three kids: JuJu and the twins. This is just shocking and hard to believe i dealt with him on a daily...
@Lyn  Oh, really? And yet her mac daddy was a career convicted felon????  It takes two to tango, you got that?!
@Lone Wolf Maybe she didn't know him that well, could been a new relationship, he could have kept it hiden about his life........to bad she didn't get to find out before being killed.
@Lone Wolf - whatever the issues about the person she fell in love with does not discount the fact that she was a very good mother. There were choices in her personal life that is not agreeable but as a mother, as a co-worker, as an acquaintance, as a friend, you cannot ask for a better person. Rest in Peace Johnetta, prayers to your children and family.
@Lone wolf yeah really cause you cvan't help who you fall in love with.... and let him with out sin cast the first stone... so i guess you're jesus or God, huh? You can judge him....?
@Richard Parnell Wilson - let me know how I can get in touch with you. I was very close to Conjewel but was not a part of his immediate circle. It would be great to chat and share stories if you're up for it.

the down side dummy is that two people lost their lives.... and unless the both kllled someone, then whatever his transgression were with the law, they dont amount to dying in order to justify anything!!!
Looks like that theft case is gonna be an FTA.Â
If he was "turning his life around," he should have done it a little sooner.
Whe gives a dam if he was a felon??? What does that have to do with anything this man and woman was a father, mother, son daughter they wher human and because you have a record doesnt make u a bad person... this is sad and tradgic... I didnt kno them personaly but i do kno people that r close to me that did...R.I.P. to them and may God comfort their children, family and everyone that was clode to them...
jinetta, just notice what ethnicity, color, Â nationality, and race of these a**Holes that making these ridiculous statements???? Need I say MORE????

this doesnt evecin deserve a dignified response because its luda.....
@Jinetta Valentine King You are right.  Just because someone has a record does not make them a bad person.  Everyone can make a mistake.  Conjewel just made a few:
 theft
assault
forgery
drugs and illegal firearms possession
Current warrant for theft
Lastly, wasn't he also connected to a murder a few years back?
Â
I do feel sorry for the passenger and the children. Â It will be interesting to find out what the results of the investigation are and see if Conjewel was driving under the influence. Â
Yes
Yes
yes
yes
yes,
and yes, but wasn't his murder charge dismissed? Then I rest my case!!!!
well at lest you are an educated man. your statements are lucid, well thought out, and intelligent, and I respect that and thus, I respect you and you opinion!
@Jinetta Valentine King Having a criminal record doesn't make you a bad person? Sorry I had to read that twice. What does make you a bad person?
Being a Killer, child molester, rapest, terrorist... dummy!!!
@Jinetta Valentine King
An innocent life was lost....the passenger. We dont have all of the facts so we shouldnt judge. Even if the driver had a criminal history I wouldn't wish a tragedy like this on anyone. Their loved ones are left to mourn....and several children have now lost a parent. Prayers to the families. RIP ConJewel & Johnetta. Although I didn't know them personally, I have several friends who did.
I knew them well and personally... much respect for your comment!!!
Karma for Con? Â http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Fragile-evidence-dooms-murder-case-1266725.php
@Jennifer D - if you read the facts of the case they actually dropped it because they had no evidence and the likely killer was another man, a man that actually knew the guy that was killed. It's called being wrongly accused.
I'm sure that friends and family feel a loss, but what I don't understand is when they say it doesn't add up, did they go to math class?
Dude looks like Ving Rhames.
Â
As for skid marks, he flew across some grassy areas.  Wouldn't he have left skid marks in the dirt if he had braked?
God works in mysterious ways.
@Droid Ivan Ask not for whom the bell tolls - it tolls for Thee.
@RubyLavendar It tolls for everyone ultimately. For some sooner than for others. Such is the case here.
@Droid Ivan  @RubyLavendar Yes, I totally agree...we can only speculate about what happened, the only ones who know can only answer through a Ouija board. Such is life and death. Hope I go peacefully in my sleep after a good long life.

@Contract Killer There will come a time in your life when you will have plenty of time to think about these kind of comments you've made in your life, and it will hurt, it will hurt real bad. This isn't a joke, these are human lives lost. If there is any sort of higher power, don't let yourself think this will go unnoticed.Â
FINALLY!!!!! SOMEONE AFTER MY OWN HEART!!!
@Stacy  @Contract Killer Amen to that...
@Contract Killer SMH
While so many people pass judgement, two families has lost love ones. Â Have some respect! No one know whats happen at that moment before their passing. He could have health concerns that added to this horrible accident. So before passing judgement, maybe we should collect all the facts. Â R.I.P. to those that have passed
thank you!!!!
@LaLa Wilkins  Please!!!! I'm certain the losses are our society's gains. I wish more and more career criminals end themselves like this.  OPPAN GREEN RIVER STYLE! HEY~ SEXY LADIES~
It sadden's me to read of such young lives takin so soon. And to know they have children, who at this moment lost a parent. So soon after a holiday.
But what makes me so mad, is people say things on the internet, that will be here forever, and one day those children will want answers, and will see these things people say. It does not matter the bad we have done in our life, what matters is that the support these familys need is POSSITIVE........... these 2 people where a father mother, son, daughter, brother, sister aunt or uncle to someone.
I send my prayers to the children and familys of both of these young people, and hope and wish you the public, will take in consideration of there children!!!!!!!
@ Felicia LovelyLibra Butcher........... your in my prayers
Thank you for this comment!!!! the rest of these people's comments show their true colors!!!! and they are no better than Conjewel was
