EVERETT, Wash. -- An adult and three children were injured in Everett Tuesday afternoon when a woman suspected of driving drunk jumped a curb and crashed into them.
The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Everett Avenue, according to Aaron Snell of the Everett Police Department.
Police say the 31-year-old Everett woman was driving north when she hopped a curb and slammed into the four pedestrians.
All four victims were taken to a local hospital. A 40-year-old man is being treated for two broken legs and his 16-year-old son, visiting from Minnesota, is being treated for a broken ankle. The man's 8-year-old niece and a 2-year-old nephew are also being treated for unknown injuries.
The 2-year-old was in a stroller when the car hit him.
Micah Hasselstrom was leaving a nearby QFC when he saw the horrific crash.
"Once I seen that stroller, I thought the baby was underneath it right away," he said.
Hasselstrom said he immediately dropped his groceries and ran over to help. As he got closer, he realized that two people were lodged under the car.
"I lifted that front tire up and she put it in reverse and got off of them," he said.
Once the victims were free from the car, Hasselstrom said he could see how serious some of the injuries were.
"I noticed his leg was gushing (blood) so I ripped my shirt off and tied his leg off and that was it, I stayed with him," he said.
Snell credits Hasselstrom and others at the scene for their bravery in helping the victims.
"Our citizens are excellent," he said. "They saw what happened, they immediately jumped in to help and make sure everyone was okay. Our hats are off to the people who helped us out we appreciate that."
None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, Snell said.
The driver was taken to the hospital, though it's unknown if she was injured in the crash. Traffic detectives believe the woman was drunk at the time of the crash, but are waiting on the results of a blood draw.
Northbound Broadway was closed for about 45 minutes to clear the vehicles and investigate the scene.

The most preventable of tragedies. There's a fairly decent bus system and plenty of cab companies available to anyone in the area. There's no reason to drive under the influence. Rural areas always puzzle me though - I see plenty of cars and trucks parked in front of the bars in rural towns, and I know that everyone there is driving home later. Maybe there could be an enterprising bus company that takes care of these areas some day.
what a piece of garbage - drunk driving (at 4:30? not like there is a good time for it but still), running people over. i wonder what this wonderful womans' punishment will be? complete AA? say "i'm sorry"?

sorry to the poor family and may they recover quickly...
Terribly sad to hear about the family. Thanks to quick thinking citizens for helping this family. And hope the driver pays the consequences for her actions. Hopefully.

Drunk at 4:30pm? Sheesh - what a loser with a capital L.  I hope the victims recover quickly.
A suspected drunk driver??? Really? Who would have thought? (sarcasm)
