SEATTLE -- Police say two men have been found dead in a car behind an apartment building in the city's Beacon Hill neighborhood.
An officer on patrol discovered the bodies about 6 a.m. after noticing broken glass next to the car.
Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson said it appears the two men had been shot in the head and the gunman remains on the loose.
Investigators cordoned off the area near the intersection of 39th Avenue South and Kenyon Way while they collected evidence.
Family members identified one of the victims as 34-year-old Edward Westmoreland.
"We loved him deeply," said the victim's father, also named Edward Westmoreland. "He loved his family deeply, especially his son."
The victim's son was just 6 years old.
"He was with his dad yesterday learning how to ride a bike," said the boy's mother. "That was his last memory -- his dad showing him how to ride a bike."
Police marked a path of blood on the sidewalk, which may reveal the gunman's path. Investigators say it appears the shooter may have fired from close range and then walked along the sidewalk to a getaway car.
Court documents reveal the victim has a long criminal record, but his father said he was getting his life together.
"He was getting on track, getting closer with his son," the elder Edward Westmoreland said.
He says he believes his son's death is about easy access to guns.
"Edward didn't deserve to be a victim of violence, he really didn't."
Police have not identified the second victim.

as we close in on the first 48 it looks like this "no snitch" neighborhood will reap what they sow.
Not the old â He was getting his life back togetherâ Please. left out â He had just found Jesusâ I wonder if the victim would have made better choices if he knew how much he was loved though?
Sad for all involved. It is the lifestyle though not the gun.
Why does the mother or father always say he was getting his life together. I call BS, this guy had a lengthy criminal record-a complete degenerate. Obviously, someone had an ax to grind. I feel sorry for his child, I'm sure the mother is on strait pathway. *sarcasm*
Stop whinning , Seattle dosent rate im murders GO TO NEW ORLEANS, CHICAGO,ST LOUIS ,OR DETROIT !!! The one that are done with handguns.
@hotrod45Â What's the common denominator in the cities you listed? I wonder....Please enlighten us Hotrod45
THE DEATH OF YOUR SON WAS DUE TO HIS IDIOTIC LIFE CHOICES; NOT easy access to guns.Â
Nothing usually good happens between midnight and 4am.
Thats why i live in bellevue
@Bcitron44Â right.... munchbar?
If only assault weapons had been banned last month, this never would have happened. ((((sarcasm))))
@BiancaSure, and last night someone broke into a truck in Fremont and walked off with some idiot's AR-15 and three fully loaded clips. Just awesomeness now put into the street food chain.Â
Place your bets... Drug Deal... Gang Shooting... someone idling in the car listening to their stereo too loud in the middle of the night....
I can say there are no shortage of those stereo people in my neighborhood ... I opt for use of an egg launcher from my window ... love hearing the people in those cars freak out after they get a few helpings of egg splattered on their car! In the summer it is bonus points if you get it through a open window / sunroof... If they do not move they get a second helping - dam epic to hear those folks just swear up a storm when that junk goes all over their interior! | I just have to make sure I do not laugh too hard that they notice me =)
No place is safe Susabelle!! Whether your hubby is with you or not!! Either you both could die or one could! NO one is SAFE and there is NO SAFE PLACE!!!
I say pack your bags buy up some property about 25 acres and move on out of the suburbia!!
@reelin21 There are a lot of "safe" places...not so sure why you have such a negative outlook on our world!..but from the obviously overt rhetoric one might guess you are either trying to be a smarta**, a extreme liberal, or a resident of Seattle.Â
@reelin21Â LOL You're funny! Amazing that you read paranoia in that comment instead of personal choice.
A lot of people love to bash Seattle. They can't afford to live in the nice areas, so they dishonestly claim that the entire city is like Rainier Valley.Â
@lakeview When I bought my property and house I looked N to S and settled somewhere in between. I expected to pay roughly between 650K to 1.25mil for what I wanted..but found a perfect place a little off the beaten path for a little less than 550K. (paid cash) so yes I could afford it and I still will bash most of Seattle proper. Why would I choose to live in a cracker box with no property when I can have some acreage a house over 3000sf for less?
@lakeview Seattle is a big time anti-police city, which is great for criminals. I just stay out of Seattle so I don't get shot.
@lakeview A lot of people dishonestly, and without first-hand knowledge, love to bash south Seattle, too.
@138 @lakeview Well, honestly, South Seattle does kinda suck.Â
@lakeview But wasnt a woman just shot by a stray bullet outside the Market? I had never thought that area to be that bad in years past, Burien used to be a nice place too. Auburn, same thing... More and more areas are falling as undesirable populations move in and destroy once nice places to live. Drugs, gangs and violence and still we continue to slap a few hands and coddle these folks..
I really want my sister to move out of Seattle. I walked by someone arguing with a tree last time I visited. Scary
@SoTweetie who won the argument??? I've seen those things too, most distressing and I do not like to go to Seattle without my husband.
@SoTweetie In my defense that tree did trip me!...or maybe it was the drugs?
@SoTweetie No reason to live there.
Seattle's murder rate just skyrochetted!
I can see it now..."IN THE 1st 48" Drug related no doubt, a debt unpaid!! STUPID KIDS that have STUPID PARENTS who have NO IDEA what their children are up too!! NOTHING!!! THEY ARE VACANT PARENTS!
"We wanted to embrace this neighborhood," Nelson said. "This is really scary."
Sadly, the community needs to embrace itself first and look inwardly with regard to what it will and will not tolerate.
How can Mayor McGinn possibly justify this? What kind of third-world crime pit is he running here?
Ah, Seattle has a very lengthy history of crime and vice and corrupted city officials. Once a wild logging town always a wild logging town?
@Citizen#3457899654Â LOL, I love the bit of Seattle about the "seamstress" tax. It was Seattle's way of taxing prostitution.
@aintno1special @Susabelle LOL! And we all know that to be false...Wasnt Seattle more recently voted the Country's worst dressed?
@Susabelle With the amount of tax collected from the seamstresses one would have thought Seattle to be the best dressed town in the country.
@Whobeke  ZZZZZzzzzzzz......yawn.....
I see, the headline has changed from "beacon hill" to "south seattle"; that ought to sufficiently rouse the rabble.

"HENSE' is not a word. Hence my response.....
@Mr. Tree  Well played..... Tree...
I knew that I would get the below reactions to my "elipsis" post. In my defense, when I post something that might be read by hundreds or even thousands of people I generally try not to look like a grammatical and spelling idiot. It goes to the credibility of the person posting and their educational level - hense their understanding of the subject matter. But that is just me.
@GOATCUTTERÂ It is the peculiar quality of a fool to perceive the faults of others and to forget his own. (Marcus T. Cicero)
@GOATCUTTER *hence. And quit yer bellyaching!!! Ain't ever seen such a sumb***h!!
@Bubba Gunners I sure hope that GOATCUTTER does not live in a glass house!Â
@Funky-Munky To me correcting someone's grammar on these forums is really pointless...outside of proving to the "world" that you are informed...or pretentious. If you are correcting the context of their comment, because it is way off base, or even just debating the opinions...but to tell someone they've misspelled a word, or misused a grammatical rule is not necessary...but as I said that is IMO!
@aintno1special Oddly.... I believe their intentions were good. Heck, I write in these things like a journal or comic book anyways.
@Bubba Gunners @GOATCUTTER I get the feeling you are probably an old man from the south.
Let the rampant speculation commence!
@Throbbinhood Police noticed some go daddy green sheet metal laying in the street ... I wonder ?
@Throbbinhood "drug deal gone bad" LOL, I visited the cliche store this morning
I guess the recent gun buyback is really working...
