SEATTLE - Two young men are hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after they were hit by gunfire in a disturbance early Sunday outside a SoDo nightclub.

Police responded to the scene, in the 1900 block of 1st Avenue South, at about 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired and a victim on the ground.

When officers arrived, both gunshot victims had already been taken to Harborview Medical Center in personal vehicles, said Detective Jeff Kappel of the Seattle Police Department.

The victims initially were reported to be a man and woman. Police later said the victims were two men, aged 21 and 22.

An initial investigation found that a fight broke out as patrons were leaving a nearby nightclub. The disturbance escalated into gunfire and the two men were shot.

There is no suspect information or any additional details available at this time, Kappel said.

"This remains an active and on-going investigation," Kappel said.

It was the second weekend in a row that gunfire had claimed victims during a fight outside a SoDo nightclub.

Early on Feb. 5, a 25-year-old USS Nimitz sailor was fatally shot during a melee outside a SoDo nightclub. Two others were injured in that incident.
