2 severely injured in early morning crash near Kingston

KINGSTON, Wash. - Two people suffered potentially life-threatening injuries early Monday when their SUV ran a red light and crashed into a retention pond near Kingston.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, at Highway 104 and Hansville Road, at about 6:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash, said a spokesperson for North Kitsap Fire & Rescue.

When crews arrived, they found two adults inside the vehicle - one conscious and the other unconscious. Both were rushed to a local hospital.

Witnesses told authorities that the medium-sized SUV was heading east on Highway 104 when it ran the red light at Hansville Road, veered across the roadway and over a berm, then landed upright in a small retention pond behind the USA Express gas station in the Kingston Crossing shopping center.

Two large dogs were also found in the car. They were apparently riding unrestrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the incident.
