SEATTLE - A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were wounded Thursday night when someone opened fire during an altercation at Discovery Park in Seattle, police say.

Officers responded to the scene at about 10:45 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired near the Visitor's Center in the park, said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

About a half hour later officers received a report that a male with a gunshot wound arrived at a North Seattle hospital. Officers responded to that location to investigate further.

The girl didn't know she had been hit until she went home and noticed her leg was bleeding. She was taken to a hospital by her mother early Friday.

Both victims are expected to recover.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a 16-year-old boy got into some type of altercation with three other teens. One of the three teens shot the victim in the arm. All three suspects then fled the scene and remain at large.

It is unknown what initiated the confrontation, but police believe the victim and the shooter were known to each other. Officers interviewed the victim, who was less than cooperative.

Police are now looking for three teenage boys who were involved in the altercation with the victim.

Gang detectives are investigating.
