2 young bike riders hit by 2 separate cars in Seattle

SEATTLE -- Two boys on bikes were hit by two separate cars Monday afternoon at the same intersection in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood.

Police received multiple reports that two kids had been hit by cars at about 3:30 p.m. at Colson Avenue South and Airport Way South.

The first child -- an 8-year-old boy -- was hit as he rode across Airport Way South. He suffered minor scrapes and bruises, but was not seriously hurt.

A second, 12-year-old boy, saw the crash and began riding across the street to help his friend. As he crossed the street, he was hit by a second car, according to police.

The boy was thrown from his bike, leaving him with what is thought to be a broken leg. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Both drivers stayed at the scene, and they are now being interviewed by police. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the crashes to call 911 or (206) 625-5011.

Police don't believe drugs or alcohol played a role in either crash.
