2 Seattle-area women critically injured, driver speeding

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A young driver and her teen passenger suffered critical injuries after the driver failed to negotiate a sweeping curve in the road near Sherwood.

The Washington County sheriff's office said Saturday that the driver, 25-year-old Morgan McFarland, is in the hospital in critical condition. The condition of 17-year-old passenger Leah McFarland isn't known. The women are from the Seattle area and are cousins.

The crash occurred Friday at about 6 p.m. when McFarland lost control of her 1989 Honda Civic and collided with a Dodge Durango. The driver of the Durango was not injured in the crash.

Investigators say McFarland was speeding when the crash occurred.
