Sheriff's office in Belfair damaged by arson
By Kitsap Sun
BELFAIR - An arson at the Mason County Sheriff's Office in Belfair around midnight on Friday is under investigation by the fire marshal and the sheriff's office.
A detective with the sheriff's office said the suspect poured gasoline around the building and lit it before taking off, according to a press release. The building is a satellite location for the sheriff's office, which is headquartered in Shelton. A person who happened to be in the area of the substation, at 20 NE Romance Hill Road, saw the fire and was able to put it out with a garden hose, but not before it did some damage. Detective William Adam said it is not known exactly how much damage was done, but he said it was, "very minimal due to the quick actions of a good Samaritan." The fire damaged some of the steps to the door, plants, beauty park and a wooden palet. An outside wall also had some scorch marks on it. Authorities have yet to identify any suspects and are still investigating. The Kitsap Sun is a media partner of KOMO News. To read the complete Kitsap Sun story and comments, click here. |
