Hit-and-run victim dies; search ongoing for driver

SEATTLE -- The man who was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in Renton last week died from his injuries on Thursday. Investigators, meanwhile, are still searching for the driver who hit him.
Daren Dougan was riding his motorcycle at 45th Place and Talbot Road and left for dead. He was wearing his helmet, but that wasn't enough to save him. Several drivers drove by while Dougan lay injured on the road. Police believe a driver in a light-colored SUV ran into Dougan and fled. But they have little else to go on. Dougan's friends and family members are outraged their loved one is gone and his killer still on the loose. "People should pay for what they do and this person, wherever they are right now, they should know what they did and they should pay," said friend Robert Kraft. All Dougan's family and friends can do now is hope that someone saw something that could help police catch the driver, who now faces vehicular homicide charges. "Search your heart and think about your own. Think of your own son or daughter, or brother or sister laying in a bed in a coma," said the victim's father, Jim Dougan. "If people can get away with killing someone as has happened here, we're not going to be protected ourselves," said friend Robert Kraft. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact the Renton Police Department. |
