EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Detectives retrieved a text message from a cell phone company saying, "It's done."

That's part of the evidence that led Snohomish County prosecutors to charge Brent Starr of Gold Bar and his girlfriend, Debra Canady, with murder in the death of her former boyfriend.

David Grimm was stabbed and beaten to death June 26 at her home in Sultan.

Court papers say detectives retrieved text messages that Starr and Canady had erased from their phones. The Herald of Everett reports prosecutors say they later sent other messages pretending to be surprised at Grimm's death.

Detectives say Canady and Grimm had lived together in her house as boyfriend and girlfriend for about three years before breaking up a few months ago. Grimm refused to move out after Canady and Starr began dating.
