3 injured in possible DUI crash near Sultan
SULTAN - A 33-year-old Monroe man was critically injured after crashing head-on into another vehicle while driving without headlights just after midnight Saturday.

Two young females in the other vehicle were injured less seriously.

Washington State patrol troopers said the man was believed to be intoxicated as he swerved down Highway 2 in the darkness in a two-door Toyota with only his parking lights on.

He crossed the center line west of Sultan at Fern Bluff Road and smashed into the other vehicle, knocking it on its side, said Trooper Keith Leary of the State Patrol.

The man told troopers at the crash scene that he drank a six-pack of beer before driving. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.

The female driver of the other vehicle was transported to Harborview by ambulance with head lacerations and a broken ankle. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening. Her passenger had minor injuries and was taken to Valley Hospital in Monroe.

Highway 2 was closed in both directions until about 3 a.m. Saturday.
