Motorcyclist flees police at 130 mph, runs out of gas

By KVAL Web Staff and News ServicesTIGARD, Ore. -- A motorcyclist reached speeds over 130 mph in a police chase that ended with his arrest after he ran out of gas. The chase began when Tigard police spotted 27-year-old Gary Allen Smith speeding on Oregon 217 on a 2001 Suzuki SVC. An Oregon State Police trooper saw a Tigard police car in pursuit where Oregon 217 merges with Interstate 5, and joined the chase down the freeway. Smith got all the way to Albany before he ran out of gas and the chase ended. He's charged with reckless driving and attempting to elude police. Charges could be filed in multiple counties since the chase passed through Washington, Clackamas, Marion and Linn counties. The Associated Press contributed to this report. |
