INDEX - A 50-year-old Monroe man died Saturday evening when his motorcycle was struck by an oncoming car on Highway 2.

State Patrol troopers said Michael D. Wallace was riding his 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on the two-lane highway at about 7:15 p.m. when he was killed.

Just before the accident, a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier was stopped in the eastbound lane, waiting to make a left turn, when it was hit from behind by an eastbound Ford Ranger pickup.

The impact pushed the Chevy into the westbound lane, where it collided with the motorcycle.

Wallace died at the scene. The driver of the Chevy, a 47-year-old Monroe woman, was injured and taken to Valley General Hospital.

The driver of the pickup, an 80-year-old Seattle man, was not injured.

Troopers said alcohol and drugs were not involved. It appears that the driver of the Ford Ranger did not see the stopped Chevy for some unknown reason.
