SEATTLE -- For Vade Donaldson, the fruits of his labor have been hard to come by lately.

Donaldson and his family have been tending after their small but proud plot of vegetables at the Lincoln Park P-Patch in West Seattle. The park is so popular there is a waiting list of gardeners and it's known to donate hundreds of pounds of fresh vegetables to the food bank every year.

But someone has been beating the gardeners to the punch and picking whatever is ripe for their own taking.

"I don't know if that's people aren't aware of what is happening here at the garden. I would just ask that people don't take what's not theirs," said Donaldson's wife, Stephanie Kellner. "It's a basis tenet of our society is that we don't steal."

One gardener even posted a sign in the garden that reads," Who stole my kale? Shame on you".

"There are some things we don't grow anymore because they're ripe for picking, literally," said Donaldson. "I don't think that people are stealing the food because they need it. I think it's a callous act and a selfish act."

It's a selfish act that's being taken very seriously. A sign posted at the garden warns if you're caught stealing, you will be arrested.
