CANNON BEACH, Ore. - State health officials on Tuesday warned people to stay out of the water at Cannon Beach after 85,000 gallons of sewage overflowed from the waste water treatment plant.

The state issued the advisory after bacteria levels in the water were found to exceed state standards. Children, the elderly and those in poor health were advised not to swim in the ocean.

The state said it planned to lift the advisory as soon as test results showed the water has returned to acceptable levels.
