San Juans ferry to be sidelined at least 2 days
SEATTLE (AP) - Washington State Ferries expects the 144-car ferry Elwha to be out of service for at least two days because of an apparent cooling system failure.
The Elwha went dead in the water Wednesday morning in the San Juan Islands near Blakely Island. It was carrying 100 cars and more than 200 people. It was towed to Anacortes where the vehicles and passengers were safely unloaded.
Ferry system spokeswoman Susan Harris says the Elwha will be repaired at Eagle Harbor.
She says the 90-car ferry Sealth was being brought in as a replacement for the Elwha.
Three other ferries remain on San Juan Islands routes, but some Wednesday sailings had to be canceled.
