Surveillance video from Casa del Matador Restaurant & Tequila Bar in Northwest Portland shows the suspect snatching bottles of tequila off the shelves of a storage room.

PORTLAND, Ore. – A thief smashed through the front door glass of a Northwest Portland restaurant early Thursday morning and stole 16 bottles of tequila worth thousands of dollars, Portland police say.

After gaining entry to Casa del Matador Restaurant & Tequila Bar at 1438 Northwest 23rd Avenue at about 4:45 a.m., the suspect kicked through a wooden panel on a storage room, which contained the tequila.

The storage room seen in video from a surveillance camera appears to shake from the suspect’s blows to the door. Then the panel explodes off the door and the suspect can be seen squeezing through it and into the room.

The suspect then grabs bottles of tequila off the shelves. He also finds a box of tequila. All of it he pushes through the hole in the door and then disappears himself.

Police say more than $3,000 worth of tequila was stolen.
Police describe the suspect in his mid-30s with a stocky build.
