Baby Maggie finds more 8s than expected
Maggie May Jones sleeps at Tacoma General Hospital on Friday, August 8, 2008. By Brian Calvert
TACOMA, Wash. -- Dan Jones, a Seattle firefighter, and his wife Laura, a nurse, had a fairly straightforward plan for their delivery.
"The original plan was to have the baby on her due date, which was the fourth of August," said Laura. "But if we went a week past, the doctor said we were going to have to have a C-section." The baby was late, so the cesarean section was set for August 8. "Then, last night, things got a little exciting. And I started contracting," Laura said. The baby was coming, and no c-section was needed. The Jones family welcomed little Maggie on 8-8-08 at Tacoma General Hospital. She wasn't the first baby of 8-8-08, but she may be one of only a few with a very unique distinction: "She came out right at 8:08," Laura said. Yep. Maggie Jones was born at 8:08 on 8-8-08. And she has a birth certificate to prove it. "They were joking about it," she said of the doctors as the time approached a series of eights Friday morning. "We were all kind of joking about it... how amazing would that have been? "I wasn't induced, it was all natural. It just happened," she said. "Nobody fudged it." On the baby's birth certificate is another 8. Maggie weighed in at 8 pounds (and two ounces, but who's counting at this point?). So what about an eight in the name? "We were given some ideas," Dan said, "like Octavia." But the couple went with Maggie May. And that's where our string of lucky eights has to end, because I'm pleased to report that Maggie May has all 10 fingers and all 10 toes. |
