SEATTLE - A man is in custody after he allegedly threw a pregnant woman down a flight of stairs, struck her and then stabbed her in the abdomen early Saturday.

The assault took place at 12:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of North 49th Street, police said. The suspect then fled the scene.

Police later found him in the 4600 block of Stone Way North, and arrested him. He was booked into the King County jail for investigation of assault.

The victim, who was six months pregnant, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries.

There was no immediate word on the status or condition of the unborn child.

The name and age of the suspect were not available.
