TACOMA, Wash. -- Two Pierce County Sheriff's deputies shot and wounded a knife-wielding man Friday night in Tacoma.

Four deputies were called to the Woodmark Apartments in the 2400 block of 96th Street South just before 10:30 p.m. after getting a call about a suicidal person, according to Jerry Bates with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say the 32-year-old man rushed out the front door, armed with a screwdriver and a knife. The man charged at the deputies, forcing two of the deputies to open fire on the man, Bates said.

One officers had her uniform slashed, but she was not hurt.

It's unclear how many times the man was hit, but Bates said his injuries are not life threatening.

The deputies involved are on administrative leave pending the investigation, which is standard procedure for the department.
