Girl, 12, killed in Skagit Co. motorcycle crash
BURLINGTON - A 12-year-old girl was killed and her father was seriously injured when the motorcycle they were riding collided with other vehicles Sunday afternoon on rain-slick Highway 20.

Washington State Patrol troopers at the scene said the girl's 54-year-old father, of Moses Lake, was heading east on the highway through the rain and his daughter was riding behind him.

Traffic slowed ahead of them near the intersection with Avon-Allen Road, and the motorcycle hit the back of a minivan just in front of them.

The impact forced the motorcycle over the center line, where it was hit by a westbound van. Both the father and girl were thrown from the cycle.

The girl slid across the road and was hit by a 2002 Dodge Caravan driven by an 81-year-old woman.

The girl died at the scene, and her father was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

No drugs or alcohol were involved. Both the father and daughter were wearing helmets.

The names of the victims were not immediately available.
