Shoreline man still missing
Hilmer Jager By KOMO Staff
MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- An elderly man who went missing from his Shoreline home Friday morning is still missing, despite earlier reports to the contrary, Sgt. John Urquhart with King County Sheriff's office said.
Community Transit issued a statement Wednesday morning that one of their bus drivers spotted 79-year-old Hilmer Jager and recognized him from a missing person poster distributed by the transit agency. However, it turns out the person that bus driver found was a different missing man -- a 73-year-old from Marysville. Jager is still missing. Jager has dementia, high blood pressure and congestive heart failure and went missing Friday morning when he drove away from his Shoreline home. Jager left without his much-needed medications, and his family is worried he could be hurt or disoriented. "Without his medicine he may die," said his daughter, Erica Bauman. "His physical condition is poor." Jager's doctors believe he may only survive a few days without his heart medication, and he's already gone five days without it. Jager told his wife he was headed to Snohomish, but Bauman says he doesn't know anyone there. She fears he could be lost and confused without any idea as to how to get back home. Sheriff's deputies all over the state are now on the lookout. Dozens of friends are also aiding in the search. "My hope is that if everyone will take an extra minute or two and just look a quarter mile around their house and just look for him. And if everybody did that, I'm sure we would find him," Bauman said. Jager walks with a walker in a hunched-over posture and if he falls, he can't get up by himself, his daughter said. He was driving a white late model Buick Century with disabled plate number 72399DP. Jager weighs about 300 pounds and stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall. "He battles confusion, and when he gets anxious, confusion totally takes over," Bauman said. He has white hair and was last seen wearing dark dress pants, black belt, black dress shoes and a light colored short-sleeved shirt. He probably is not clean-shaven. He does not own a cell phone and has not used any of his credit cards. Bauman says her father hasn't been reported at any area hospitals. Anyone who sees Jager is asked to call 911. |
