SKYWAY, Wash. - A man is in Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries after he was shot in the head Sunday afternoon outside the Hillview apartment complex in Skyway.

The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the complex at 12900 block of 60th Lane South, police said.

The suspects fled immediately, but King County sheriff's deputies quickly responded and later detained three "persons of interest."

Initial reports indicated that the victim was shot during an armed robbery, but police now say they are not sure if that was the case. Officers have determined that there was some sort of money transaction involved.

The victim's girlfriend was with him at the time and witnessed the incident.

Detectives have been talking to the girlfriend. They also searched a home in the complex, on suspicion it may be connected to the shooting.

Residents of the apartment complex were shaken up after the shooting.

Barbara Hobson said she got a call right after the incident from her niece, who lives in the complex.

"She called me and said she was worried and told me that the police were beating on her door," Hobson told KOMO News. "She said, 'Well, they've stopped now - they're beating on everybody's door around the complex."

The investigation continues into the shooting.

The victim's identity and medical condition were not immediately available.
