2 brush fires scorch trees near Bremerton Airport

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Two brush fires burned an area along SR-3 near Bremerton, including a three-alarm fire near Bremerton Airport Thursday afternoon.
A second fire was burning just down the road near SW Lake Flora Road.
The fire along Lake Flora Road burned about 6-7 acres and was fully contained by late Thursday evening, said Nathan Post with South Kitsap County Fire.
The fire near the airport was 75 percent contained by Thursday evening and firefighters were cutting the final lines around for full containment. That fire burned about 4 acres, Post said.
No structures were burned in either fire and no one was hurt. Parts of Highway 3 were shut down in both directions during the peak of the firefighting efforts due to heavy smoke.
Post said it appears both fires started along Highway 3 at around the same time, but no official cause has been given.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for critical wildfire danger through Friday morning.

@SusieQ...There are actually about 200 fires burning in our state, 117 new fires as of this mornings report. Every fire is News no matter how big or small. Our entire state is in extreme danger due to being so dry and a 6-7 acre fire can become a 100 acre fire in the blink of an eye, besides the fact that the residents in those areas such as myself need to know there is a fire in our area!!!! Here is a great link for anyone who wants to know what is going on mot in just our state but our region and nation. http://www.nwccweb.us, this site is loaded with every detail you could ever want about each fire. I for one say thank you to all our fire fighters who responded and have kept these 2 fires from becoming monsters. We do not have the man/woman power for any more, we are stretched way thin !!!! Be safe out there everyone !!!
You gotta love how there are something like 98 fires burning between Wenatchee and Okanogan county at the moment, burnings thousands of acres, some of which are 2% contained, and somehow a 6-7 acre fire burning outside Bremerton makes top news. Wow. Really, WOW!
@SusieQ WOW, Susie... Really? Do you actually WATCH the news? Because those fires have been in the news. These fires were NEW fires. They closed a major highway during RUSH HOUR. Because their size- they were easier to contain, hence, being put out sooner. If it hadn't been reported in the news- I'm sure that there would be people (maybe even you)  here up in arms saying... "What about the fires near the Bremerton Airport that closed the highway...."
This IS still news... even if it isn't about the fires in Eastern Washington.
Although there is no determination of what started it- my guess is someone threw their cigarette butt out their window. PLEASE people- if you smoke- DO NOT DO THIS! What will it take for people to stop being so careless??
