3 arrested in Lacey murder case, 2 teens still sought

LACEY, Wash. - Two adults and a teen have been arrested for investigation of first degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man in a car at a Lacey apartment complex Wednesday night. Police say two more teens believed to be involved in the murder are still on the loose.

Police Cmdr. Jim Mack said Daniel L. Smith was shot about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Detectives were interviewing residents of the College Glen Apartments to try to gather information about the shooting.

The two adults have been booked into the Thurston County Jail for investigation of first degree murder while the teen has been booked into juvenile detention, also for investigation of first degree murder. Police believe the two other teens still sought are hiding in Thurston or Pierce Counties.

Investigators say they don't believe it was a random crime and suspect the group was talking to Smith prior to the shooting.
