30 to 40 residents mistakenly report gunshots, crying woman
SEATTLE -- Proving that even dozens of witnesses can be wrong, early morning gunshots Tuesday in Queen Anne turned out to be just a couple of drunk people with fireworks, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Around 3:30 a.m., the 911 call center was flooded with 30 to 40 calls from residents reporting a man shooting a gun, a woman crying and people running near the 400 block of West Republican Street.
Officers arrived on the scene and received a lot of different descriptions of what happened from a lot of witnesses.
Officers figured out the two suspects, a 33-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, had run into an apartment at 500 W. Mercer St.
When the couple came to the door, they were noticeably intoxicated, and officers could smell marijuana inside the apartment, according to police.
According to police, the man was argumentative with officers, but the woman cooperated and explained what happened.
She said they had been outside shooting Roman candles at each other, and she had been laughing, not crying.
Officers found the remains of fireworks in the street and are requesting the couple be charged with reckless endangerment.
Never shot Roman candles at anyone, but bottle rocket wars are a favored past time.Â

Seems a bit extreme. They were goofing around with each other and it doesn't seem like there was any serious risk of death.
@Wabbit Agreed, they should be charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. Reckless endangerment? Naw, if they hurt one another, they deserved it due to such foolish acts.
@ur 1 pea short of a pod Couldn't agree more. ;)

Drunk, stoned, need I say more?
Charged with reckless endangerment perhaps because the woman said they were shooting the roman candles at each other, which is pretty darn stupid.. Â I agree with Dredd57.. in charging them with public intoxication and illegally discharging fireworks.
@magicmarker Come on give them 20 to life. You know how drunks are they get out and do it again. What Fun
Uh, I'm going to go ahead and call BS on "reckless endangerment." That charge is total crap in this case. They were drunkenly shooting off fireworks, they should be cited for public intoxication and illegally discharging fireworks at best. Reckless endangerment, lol, any defense lawyer could get that thrown out without even trying.
"It's all fun n games til someone loses an eye". The reckless endangerment charge probably comes from her admission that they were shooting "at each other". Will probably plead down to disturbing the peace.
@Dredd57Â You don't think shooting off fireworks in a densely populated area while drunk and high creates a risk of physical injury to others?Â
@lakeview @Dredd57 Densely populated at 3:30 am? Are you serious? NO, that does not equate to reckless endangerment. Â
A few years ago,in the beginning of July,our neighbors thought a gunshot came from our house at 2AM. We were woken up by 6 officers with assault rifles banging on the door. They searched each room,woke all 3 of the kids,woke up the neighborhood as well. While I am thankful for my neighbors thoughtfulness that there were kids in the house & what they thought was a gun shot,fireworks had been going off for several days by teenagers down the street at all hours. I have nothing against the officers doing their job,but this was a little much.
Reminds me of the end scene in the movie Blues Brothers.Â
OMG. Entertainment. Will the true this-is-what-a-gunshot-sounds-like expert please stand up. On the serious side, glad people called it in. I've read articles in which people thought that gunfire was fireworks. Cars backfiring can be a scary sound - especially to those who almost never hear or have heard real gunfire. And why shouldn't they be charged with wreckless endangerment? Roman candles are illegal fireworks and someone innocent could have been injured. If that had happened - we'd be hearing entirely different comments. And to you anti-cop people. Trade your job for theirs. 2 friends lost loved ones who who LEOs on two separate occasions four years ago. One by a POS drunk with a handgun.
@SoCal_Bound Was it the drunk or was it the handgun's fault?
What idiot can't tell the difference between a fwoop of a roman candle and a crack of a gun shot?
@DarkPartyWhat kind of idiot doesn't know that roman candles can also have a report after each shot that sounds like a firecracker. Firecrackers can sound like gun shots when you're woke out of a dead sleep.
@DarkParty The sort of people who do not have much experience with either. But at this time of year, gunfire is probably more likely to be heard in Seattle than fireworks.
@DarkParty well - I'm definitely not an idiot, yet I wouldn't know the difference. Kinda judgemental toward those who've rarely, if ever, have been around guns.
I shot a rifle at a firing range once though, so hmmmmmmm, maybe I SHOULD know the sound of every other type of firearm.
@SoCal_Bound @DarkParty They all sound very similar....there is no FssWOOOP at the beginning as there is with a roman candle....nor do roman candle's make a crack sound?
@DarkParty Maybe someone who works for a living and was woken out of a deep sleep at 3 am?
How about making them foot the bill for the dozens of calls made in error as well? That would teach them better...
reckless endangerment...  What a crock... They were just having fun, since they had to be told what was going on.. and no one was hurt, what is wrong with just telling them that they shouldn't be doing that, and that the roman candles really shouldn't be pointed at someone.. and call it good...
No one was hurt bottom line. Why is it, that when the police get called, they feel they have to charge someone with something.
@Mr. HÂ Actually, tell them that roman candles or any firework that 'flies' is illegal in Seattle proper.
@Doxie @Mr. H Setting off fireworks like roman candles in Seattle is a fine, it can lead to negligence if they caused damage to something. Other then that they cannot be charged with a crime for it, the police are way off on this one.
@Jalharad @Doxie @Mr. H I didn't say I agree with the police, was merely pointing out those fireworks are not legal, which carries a bigger warning than 'don't point those at anyone.' Â
@Mr. H  Yes, they were just having some fun keeping their entire neighborhood awake, breaking the city noise ordinance laws...you know. No harm no foul. So what if nobody could sleep? They were just having fun some. Â
@lakeview @Mr. H Keeping up your neighbors is not reckless endangerment. People are to uptight, go back to bed and don't let it ruin your life.
@lakeview @Milman @Mr. H maybe they should be charged with the things they actually broke, rather then those that they did not.
@Milman @lakeview @Mr. H Hey should represent this couple then, since you know so much about the law.Â
This reminds me of when my kids were in elementary school. The school went into lockdown for 2 hrs while police searched for "a man roaming the school grounds with a rifle". Turned out to be a student with an umbrella.
@SgtPepperSpray It happens... Tough job police have.... rarely do people appreciate their involvement!
@Funky-Munky @SgtPepperSpray yes, it does happen. But a kid with an umbrella? Too bad John Cleese wasn't there to show people how to defend themselves with a banana.
And yes, hat is off to LEOs!
@Funky-Munky BTW Funky, you have a good memory!
@MargeGunderson I think it's my phone? Hard time posting with it.
@nodozr LOL!
@SgtPepperSpray @Funky-Munky Suppose he has a pointed stick?
@SgtPepperSpray @Funky-Munky This conversation is hilarious on its own, but seeing your screen name not blue and hyperlinked causes some startled confusion when it blends into the comment.
@SgtPepperSpray Anymore you have to ask.... The economy thing and all... Glad all is good... C-ya!
@Funky-Munky @SgtPepperSpray Yep, still at it. It's a job :/ Time is up tho. Nice chat.
@SgtPepperSpray Off... Last I spoke with you.... You were a warehouse manager or somethin' like that! I hope all is well in your world....Â
@Funky-Munky @SgtPepperSpray Ooh, look at this one. I think I'll call him "lunch" :)
You?
@SgtPepperSpray @Funky-Munky Lunch hour or are you enjoying the day off?
@Funky-Munky @SgtPepperSpray my pleasure. Ha.
@SgtPepperSpray @Funky-Munky I just spit up on that comment... Ha! Thank you for the laugh....
Because the Seattle flatfoots couldn't figure out anything else, and there were to many witnesses around for them to beat the couple to death, they are trying to charge them with reckless endangerment. The neighbors were right in reporting the incedent but when the truth came out, the matter should be closed and all should move on. Oh yea, and the flatfoots should head back to the donut shop.
The reason you see this happening say, Seattle and not someplace else is very simple, libtards in Seattle think they "know" things from popular culture, movies and their general dislike of firearms. Ridiculous.Â
@NW-EconomistÂ
Yes... yes I'm sure that's what it is...
@NW-Economist  You must be the most unhappy person on the internet.Â
@lakeview @NW-EconomistÂ
...or a troll. He'll use any story to bash his beloved 'Libtards'Â
