BREMERTON - Brian Dent channels the spirit of Elvis Presley.

The Bremerton boy's sneer is missing a few teeth, and his haircut is more Beatles than King, but he has the same frantic footwork that kept early television cameras trained above the King's pelvis. And he has the same easy, self-deprecating humor that made Elvis an entertainer more than a singer.

The field of Elvis impersonation has welcomed people of different ethnic backgrounds and even women.

But at 6 years old, Brian Dent might be the littlest Elvis there is.

He's got he gold lamé suit, and gold, spray-painted sneakers. But no pompadour.

"I need a pompadour like that," Brian said of younger Elvis, looking at a photo of the King. "I'm earlier Elvis."

Brian has been showing his stuff around Kitsap County, performing at festivals, a school talent show and even aboard a Seattle-bound ferry for Seahawk fans.

It started early, said Brian's father, Sammy Dent, when an even younger Brian took early note of flashes of Elvis on television.

"As long as it's fun for him, I want to help him out," Dent said.

The first-grader at Pine Crest Elementary School in the Central Kitsap School District would request dad play Elvis CDs in the car, and began watching Elvis movies closely. His favorites, he said, are "King Creole," "Blue Hawaii" and Jailhouse Rock."

Musical talent runs in the family. Brian's mother, Minerva, plays guitar, and his older brother, 11-year-old Giremine "Ton-Ton" Ballestra, plays multiple instruments and is looking to start a band with friends.

In the meantime, he plays roadie for his little bother.

"He's starting to get too cocky," Ton-Ton said.
