POULSBO, Wash. - A car slammed into a guardrail on the Hood Canal Bridge at high speed early Sunday, ejecting the driver from the vehicle and sending him to the hospital.
The single-car accident happened at about 2:35 a.m., said Jody Matson of the Poulsbo Fire Department.
When emergency units and state troopers arrived at the scene, they found a Saturn sedan with massive front end damage as a result of crashing into the midspan concrete guardrail.
The driver was found lying in the roadway. His name and age were not immediately available.
He was treated at the scene by Poulsbo Fire Department medics and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with possible internal injuries.
Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
